Chapter 10 - Dungeon [1] - Liars

((POV SWITCHED BACK TO KURAI))

The bright green blades of grass extended out of the ground, and a sea of trees surrounded the area. The night sky was illuminated with stars.

The air was cool and fresh, and the sound of crickets filled the night. The moonlight shone through the trees, casting a soft glow over the landscape. In the distance, a stream could be heard, trickling along its course.

As I navigated around logs and ducked under the heavy branches of the oak trees, I thought to myself, "It's been a several days since I left Tottori, and I still haven't seen a single village."

After murdering the doctor and the humanoid, I concluded that it was best for me to depart from Tottori.

In the end, Tottori was nothing but a barren wasteland, with only scavengers such as crows picking over the remains of the unfortunate souls who lost their lives there.

By the time I was in Tottori, I was wearing only a barely-there shirt and tattered, worn-out pants, so I did my best to look through Elaine Castle for something to wear, but everything was either ruined or had been reduced to ashes.

I peered into one of the wardropes and was fortunate enough to discover a worn, dark brown leather cloak which was hood-less and had teared edges.

I carefully took the cloak off the hook and examined it closely. It was made of a thick, sturdy material that had clearly seen a lot of wear and tear over the years. The edges of the cloak were frayed and ragged, but it appeared to be in relatively good condition.

I put the cloak on and was surprised to find that it fit me perfectly. It was surprisingly comfortable and lightweight.

Not long after I left the boundaries of the Kingdom, I set off to the west, where a huge woodland awaited me.

"However, I hadn't expected the woods to go on for this far. Fortunately, because of my immortaloty, I no longer tire and I do not need the usual necessities such as food and water."

As I was walking, I heard a faint murmur coming from a few trees away. It sounded like mutiple people were chatting.

I hastily concealed myself behind a tree, uncertain if they could be potential foes.

As I was hidden behind one the trees, I started to pay close attention to their conversation with my sharpened sense

I stuck my neck out around the side of the tree, trying to get a better look at them aswell.

There were three individuals congregated around a campfire, perched on logs around the fire and talking about a certain topic.

The guy on the right was wearing a full suit of golden armor without the helm, complete with a silver sword and shield strapped to his back. His hair was a vibrant orange hue, and he had a smug yet attractive look about him.

A female individual occupied the seat next to him, her hair dark and lengthy. She had a beautiful visage and her eyes were large and pointed. She was dressed in a violet magician's outfit.

It had a plunging neckline that showed off her curves perfectly, and a deep slit up one side that revealed just enough of her thigh to make her look even more attractive.

Her makeup was subtle yet alluring. She completed the look with a pair of tall black boots and a matching purple cape.

"That girl appears to be mage, I can sense that her mana is off the charts." I thought.

On the other side of the log there was a man with short, disheveled dark hair. His demeanor was arrogant yet furious, and his teeth were strangely pointed when he talked. He wore an armor composed of tough, brown animal hide with a teeth as a necklace.

"Such unique appearances. They must be wealthy," I thought.

The guy on the right voice was neither too deep nor too high pitched; it conveyed a sense of confidence and arrogance. "Do you really believe that Hiryo considers us his friends?" He inquired sarcastically

The girl's voice had a distinctively girlish quality. She was also quite cheeky and had a "choose me" attitude as she spoke, "Let him believe whatever he wants, we're just using him to finish the Dungeon raid anyway."

In addition, the other guy's voice, which sounded hoarse and was uttered forcefully and with a great deal of anger. "Once we have the Unique Grade weapon, the Blood Piercing Katana, we can just leave him behind."

He went on to say, "I mean, come on, the powers that come with the katana are out of this world! Not only do you gain control of Blood magic, which is an Advanced-Teir magic, but it also boosts your physical agility, speed, and mana by a huge margin. This weapon is simply overpowered!"

As they were talking, the campfire cackles and sparks fly into the night sky, lighting up the darkness and casting a soft orange glow on the faces of the people gathered around it. The smell of smoldering wood fills the air, and the sound of the crackling flames is soothing and comforting.

The girl then said, "That sounds fantastic, but people of our skill level don't have the ability to control a weapon of that level. We could possibly even perish trying to wield it, let alone attempting to use Blood Magic."

Everyone took a moment to agree as they shook their heads.

The guy sitting across from the campfire commented, "That is true. However, it would fetch a hell of amount of money in the black market!" He exclaimed.

Everyone chuckled, believing what they had said was humorous. As if using someone and then leaving them to die was amusing.

While listening to their conversation, I heard some rustling in the bushes to my left.

It was apparent that the other people had heard it too, as they tensed up and immediately assumed a fighting position.

The guy with the sword, pulls the sword from his back and brandished it, declaring, "I'll take the lead; there shouldn't be any monsters around in this part of the forest. It must be a stray goblin." He spoke softly but loudly enough for them to hear.

They both nodded in agreement and the girl moved to stand beside him. An eerie purple light shone from her, and the magical energy I had felt before now seemed to be radiating from her in waves. A powerful aura surrounded her, filling the air around them.

My eyes grew wider with fascination as I observed a purple aura drifting around her like a light fog. "What technique is she using? Her magical power is rising!" I wondered aloud.

The last guy went to the spot on the left, unlike the rest, he simply put his hand up, preparing for a potential battle.

The rustles from the tall bush gradually became louder and nearer.

*STEP* *STEP*

"Hey guys!"

An elf male with pointed ears and long, dark hair emerged from the shrubbery. He wore a black pants and a long-sleeved top with a hood. He also had a katana strapped to his back.

A bead of perspiration trickled down their foreheads as they spotted the elf emerge from the shrubbery. "Phew, it's only you Hiryo, you gave us a fright!" the sword-bearing man said.

The elf spoke with enthusiasm and delight, "Kuo, Mileanna, and Shoto - didn't you tell me we were going to meet up here for the dungeon raid?" His face was filled with a broad, joyous grin.

Shoto was the one who carried a sword, Mileanna was the one who dressed like a mage, and Kuo was the one who had a constant grumpy voice and attitude.

Shoto let out a sarcastic laugh and walked up to Hiryo, saying, "Oh, of course, how could I forget?"

I muttered to myself while keeping an eye on them from behind the tree, "He's obviously not telling the truth. If the elf can't see that, then he's not very smart."

Hiryo beamed as he replied, "No worries, I'm sure you were doing your best to come up with the best strategy for the dungeon raid." He gave a comforting pat on their back.

"The elf is not unintelligent, he is simply completely blind towards the situation."

Shoto's eyebrows twitched slightly as Hiryo gave him an affecionate pat on the back.

Shoto was apprehensive as he glanced nervously at the others, and Mileanna quickly said, "W-Well um, I believe it's time we should get going and finish the dungeon mission!" Her voice was loud and clear.

Her purple aura gradually disappeared, dissipating into the air like a wisp of smoke.

She clutched his hand as they began walking quickly through the trees, Kuo trailing close behind.

Hiryo noticed they were a bit ahead of the him, so he started jogging and shouted, "Hey, don't leave me behind!" as he hurried after them.

Eventually, after the area emptied out, the campfire also dimmed and disappeared into the night sky.

The smoke that had been created dispersed into the atmosphere as I stepped out from my position behind the tree.

I pondered as I watched the route they had gone, "There's no point in attempting to save him if he is being so foolish. It's none of my concern what happens to them."

Despite having expressed my opinion, I still had a strong desire to find out what the outcome would be.

I felt an inexplicable urge to do something and thought to myself, "If I just observe, there should not be an issue."

I quickly glanced down at the ground before continuing to follow the same path as them.
