No matter whether they are disciples from the Taoist Academy or cultivators groomed by the Shenxiao Sect, as long as they respect Pei Xuanjing and regard him as a senior, they are all viewed as his junior, without any discrimination, in Pei's eyes.

The disciples of the Shenxiao Sect see the cultivators of the Taoist Academy as newcomers and not true inheritors of the Shenxiao lineage. The disciples of the Taoist Academy, in turn, view themselves as Pei Xuanjing's trusted followers. Both parties thoroughly enjoy this squabble over status.
This contentious atmosphere is unavoidable between cultivators from these two factions.
