Sun Yang, a lay Buddhist poet, once cited a poem from the seventy-second chapter of "Journey to the West" in his work.
The scene Li Fan saw was roughly like this: the four female monsters in the spring below were frolicking in the water, at first appearing quite human and heart-stirring to behold. For a moment, he even hesitated, unsure whether they were truly monsters or human beings, and he worried that using his Divine Sense to scan them would startle the creatures prematurely. So, he simply wrapped himself in the rain cloud and approached, hiding in the sky to observe. He decided to wait and see what would happen next and didn't immediately strike with his sword.
