He had thought that in the not too distant future, he would be gnawed on by the rats hidden within, but his spiritual talent far exceeded all expectations.
The dark tentacles on his face actually hunted snakes, insects, rats, and ants on their own, providing him with the necessary nutrients for survival. And so, he survived. Later on, he met the Feaster, who raised him and helped him join the Faceless Brotherhood.
He was born without a face, which was perfect for wearing a mask.
It was only after learning that the dark tentacles on his face were not an abnormality but a blessing from the source of the dark rules—the Great Darkness—that he understood his special constitution "Night Howler" and possessed some of the concepts of darkness.
