The village had somehow connected to an imaginary numbers space, a concept from another realm, because of its unique nature. The life forms from that other world, which lived in imaginary numbers space, considered our realm of real numbers to be fictitious, against the natural principles of their world. They conjured up our world only because their study of mathematics required the use of real number formulas.
Perhaps, in reality, creatures from both spaces might consider the other's realm to be fictitious, even suspecting it to be the result of some "Strange talk power," until they actually formed some marvelous connection.
