This light, this mournful music, when combined, accentuates an incredible atmosphere of local revelry.
Now look at the center of the hall.
From left to right stands a neat row of more than ten women, all wearing traditional Chinese wedding dresses.
Over their heads, they wear head coverings typical for Chinese weddings, but the color of these head coverings do not match the customary red. Instead, they match the colors of their respective gowns.
These wedding dresses come in white and black, each adorned with different patterns—most of which symbolize luck and fortune, like phoenixes, mandarin ducks, or various flowers that are difficult to discern.
These women also greatly vary in body shape.
There are frail girls who barely reach one and a half meters in height and there are well-endowed women as tall as an eight-foot man. Each woman in the line has a unique appearance, but their faces are all hidden beneath their head coverings, so their faces are indistinguishable.
