The moment was fleeting; with the beast lunging toward him, the paperman vanished in a flash, reappearing behind the paper tiger.
Since the paper tiger was blind to human presence, it simply planted its forepaws into the ground and, with a heave of its hips, attempted a backwards thrust. The paperman, however, disappeared once again, reappearing safe and sound. Missing the paperman, the paper tiger roared; a thunderous boom echoed as if a bolt of lightning had struck the mountain, even the iron rod, acting like its tail, sprang upright.

All 37 papermen had vanished, there remained just this giant paperman and the paper tiger. Clearly, they were made up of the smaller papermen.
Yet, he didn't notice any signs of separate parts on the paperman or the paper tiger. They seemed to have merged into a single entity as if they were born as such.
