I expected the room to be empty as usual but was surprised when I saw Barbara standing there she looked at me with a frown, "It's okay that you've been granted permission to come here you even dare bring a friend." She barked.
Jordyn hid behind me like a scared cat, "it's okay," I said to her, "all she does Is bark."
"Excuse me!" Barbara rose in annoyance and I brought a finger to my lips, "Shh don't disturb him."
"Listen Barbara said the person who harmed my brother has not been caught and here you are bringing in strangers, don't you think it's risky."
Eyeing from head to toe, "You don't know who did this to Pierce?* I asked and something flickered in her eyes for a second.
"If there's anything you know, tell me as for me I don't know anything." She denied. "You and your little friend can leave." Upon observing Jordyn she paused, "Have we met before? You look a bit too familiar."
I turned to Jordyn with a questioning stare and she immediately shook her head denying the claim, "Never in my life, it's my first time crossing paths with this woman I've not even seen her in the company before."
Barbara did not seem convinced but dropped it anyway, "maybe I was mistaken." Rising to her feet she said, "I'm leaving if anything happens to my brother just know that I will hold you and your little friend responsible."She left the room shortly.
With Barbara gone Jordyn finally had the balls to take a seat, "it must not be easy you haven't even married into the family yet, and look how they treat you."
"I'll get used to it, it will stick with time." Although I hope it will not. She trailed her eyes to Pierce who lay on the bed unconscious and the look in her eyes was quite intense. "I'm just saying a few prayers. I want him to survive this, you know." She said as if noticing my questioning gaze.
"Hey, I think he just moved," Jordyn said, causing me to run to the bedside, and truly I saw his fingers bounce up and down in a very slow manner. I immediately grabbed them and they trembled.
"Look here he's starting to wake up."
"Pierce," I called softly as his eyes peeled open, he looked lost for a moment staring at the ceiling and blinking back slowly he turned his head and met my gaze, and a smile displayed on his lips.
"Hurry," I said to Jordyn, go get the doctor
Jordyn dashed out of the room and a few minutes later returned with a doctor and two nurses behind quickly he brought out a stethoscope to check on him, after scribbling a few things on his notepad he looked up at me relieved.
"He's a very lucky man." I slumped to the chair still holding on to Pierce's hand, "Thank you, Jesus." I said breathing loudly, "Thank you, doctor."
After running a few tests Pierce was deemed fit to be discharged, the doctor said it was a miracle and warned him to take a good rest, he also prescribed some meds and that was all.
"Home feels Like home again," I flipped the light switch on, and trailing behind me was Pierce. "Careful," I rushed to his side as he almost tripped and he smiled. "I learned that it's been a while since I've been unconscious did my family make things hard for you while I was gone." He's about to be shocked and he discovers all the crazy things that took place in his absence but all that can wait for later right now what he needs is a good sleep.
"No," I replied, shaking my head, "no one made things hard for me, they were quite cooperative and let me visit you whenever I wanted. " Lies, it was all lies.
Pierce smiled relieved and I led him up the stairs. I tucked him in bed and sang a lullaby to put him to sleep and once he was asleep I went down to the sitting room to think now that Pierce was awake it wouldn't be long until he found out all that had happened I wondered how he would react to everything.
Morning soon came in the blink of an eye, I turned to the other side of the bed to find Pierce gone, I jumped out of bed in panic and headed down. The sweet smell of pancakes made me come to a pause halfway down the stairs. On getting to the kitchen I saw him making breakfast as expected.
Trailing to where he stood I wrapped my arms around his waist and said, "Didn't you get discharged yesterday? You should be getting some rest Pierce, have you forgotten the doctor's words? Leave breakfast to me, I can handle that." Although I missed having his pancakes, there's plenty of time to have them in the future.
He slightly gazed above his shoulder and planted a kiss on my forehead, "It's alright my love I've been gone all this while, it saddens me to think you were on your own let me make up for it would you."
"Alright," I gave in to him, releasing him from my grip. I treaded to the dining table patiently awaiting breakfast which would soon be served.
We were munching on the tasty pancakes when Pierce suddenly said, "I have some unfinished business to take care of and I would like to drop by the office, would you like to accompany me?" Immediately I froze in my spot searching my brain for an excuse a desperate way out
I smiled nervously, "isn't it too soon for that? Remember the doctor said to get enough rest, can't you deal with it later, probably tomorrow or next."
"No," he disagreed strongly, "it can't wait till any further. This is very urgent. I remember being distant because before the accident it was because I was on the verge of losing my position." He confessed with his head down, "I had to turn to Johanna for help, I didn't dare face you."
I watched him pitifully, this was only news now and his position was no longer in danger, the thing is how do I break this news to him? What would be his reaction?
"I don't know what the situation is right now," he continued, "maybe they placed the meeting on hold because of my health issues but if I don't go back to address it I'm afraid things might go bad, it's okay if you want to stay home I can deal with this myself."
"It's okay Pierce," I reached for his hands, "if there's anywhere you would like to go I will happily accompany you but first of all I need to tell you something you can decide whether or not it will be necessary to drop by the office after hearing what I have to say."
Pierce sat up completely abandoning his breakfast, "I'm all ears." I swallowed hard and started, "So why you were unconscious your father came to me.."
I saw him raise a brow in question, but I continued anyway, "he said that your position was in danger and there was a way to help you, he asked me to sign some papers about some shares that would be bought under my name which would make me the second highest shareholder aside you in the company and if we merge this we will be able to save you.."
"What!" Pierce immediately rose to his feet but I was not done yet, "I had no other option than to sign the papers that was the only way to help you."
"What do you mean he banged his fist on the table." Causing me to flinch.
"If those shares were bought illegally which they are, do you know what you have gotten yourself into Aurora? You could go to jail for that. Why would you let my father push you into doing this? I never asked you for this. I never asked you to sacrifice yourself for me. Why would you do this!" He yelled.
"Calm come down for a second," I said but my words did not get through, I could see his chest rising in a slow dangerous manner, he was struggling to keep his anger at bay.
"It's okay, John assured me that things will not go wrong, and now that you are back at least, it can simply be transferred out of my name and I will have to step down as a president, all this can be fixed what matters is, in the end, we were able to save both your life and position."
He swopped the plate off the table angrily and turned his back on me, "I didn't ask you for this Aurora." He trailed for the kitchen, dumped the plate in the sink, and headed up leaving me to sit there alone lost in my thoughts, I can't believe we're back to this before the accident we were fighting after the accident things have still not gotten better f*** all this.
