Aurora
I considered quitting so many times. Each time I arrived at the same conclusion: that would be an unwise decision. Even when Collin rained hell on me, I stood my ground, standing tall like a mountain, refusing to crumble. Why would I do so now because of some playboy? Surely, two can play the game.
I sluggishly dragged myself to work, dreading the day before it even started. Everywhere I went, I could see people pointing at me and whispering in hushed tones. My popularity was unbeatable, except I was popular for the wrong reasons.
Pierce hadn't turned up to work yet. Who knows, he probably bought this company because he was bored and has forgotten all about it now. I desperately hoped that would be the case.
As if on cue, he strolled into the office in his ironed-to-perfection black suit and tie, stealing breaths as he walked by. Unlike the other women, I was unfazed. He was putting up a show, and I refused to click the like button.
He stopped at my desk, and the office immediately fell silent. I felt all eyes on me.
"Good morning, Aurora," he smiled before leaving.
I was too stunned to speak.
The nerve of this man. If he wasn't my boss, I would have punched him in the face.
Hours later...
I was about to doze off when a sudden knock on the table pulled me back. I looked up to see Marina, a creepy smile on her face.
"The boss wants to see you," was all she said before walking off.
A groan tore from my lips. What does he want now? I got up regardless and headed for my doom.
"Aurora," he breathed as I walked into the room.
"You called."
"How would you like to be my secretary?"
I didn't need to think twice.
"I would have to—"
"Multiply your current income by three; that's your salary."
My jaw almost fell off, but I managed to comport myself. The offer was too good to be real. I would be a fool not to accept it. But then, being his secretary would mean...
"24/7 you'll always be with me. Until closing hours. Well?"
"Any objections?"
"None, sir."
"Well then, get ready in ten minutes; we have a meeting to attend."
"Alright, sir."
It wasn't until I exited his office did I realized the gravity of my actions. He wasn't doing this for charity. He wanted more than just a one-night stand, and I would've been more than happy to fulfill his wishes, except he had a fiancee
, and she was a little bit crazy.
No matter what it takes, I'll stop myself from falling into his trap.
Keep your legs shut and you'll be fine.
Right, all I had to do was keep my legs shut. How hard could that be?
I wish I could take back my words. I've never seen a man look so hot while driving. His muscles were almost bursting through the navy blue shirt he had on as he spun the wheel, trying to make a U-turn, and I gawked shamelessly like a whore.
"I appreciate the attention, but if you keep staring like that, I might get distracted."
I instantly arranged myself, fixing my eyes ahead, my cheeks heated up in embarrassment, and he laughed. I paid him no heed though.
"I know you don't want to listen," he started in a soft tone, "but it's all a misunderstanding."
"Save it." I folded my arms, staring outside the window. "You're right, I don't want to hear it."
It's probably all lies.
We sat through the rest of the ride in silence.
The car came to a stop in front of a tall building. We both exited the car at the same time, and immediately a man in uniform got in the car and drove away.
He walked into the building with me trailing behind. Every single person that came his way bowed their heads in respect, and I found it intriguing. I barely knew a thing about this man named Pierce except that he was insanely rich. Maybe today's the day I'd finally find out.
"Good morning, sir." A dark-haired lady who looked Mexican greeted me at the counter.
"Vera," he said breathlessly, his tone cold.
"They are all waiting for you, sir."
He turned left, and I did the same, and a few seconds later, we pulled up to a glass door. I could see the people sitting inside craning their necks to get a better look, and it only made me nervous.
"From what I can put together, this is your main company, right?" I spoke up, making him come to a pause.
He nodded, "That's right."
"And you brought me from my company, which you just newly bought, to your main company where I do not know a single thing."
He looked puzzled, so I decided to put it in a way he'd understand.
"In case I'm asked a question, how do I answer?"
Once again, his signature cocky smile appeared. "You don't have to say a word, trust me, no one would be bold enough to ask you a question with me by your side. All you have to do is stay behind me and follow my lead."
As soon as he was done with his speech, he grabbed my hand, leaving no room for negotiations, and pulled me inside. Upon entering the room, I was greeted with a series of flashing white lights.
The people I could make out as reporters rose to their feet upon sighting us, taking multiple shots at once. I was almost blinded by the intensity of the white light.
"Pierce," I called out, but he paid me no attention, dragging me up to the main stage. He coughed into the mike and everywhere went quiet.
"Good afternoon to all the reporters in the house."
"A few days ago, an article was posted on M&K's official page stating that I, Pierce Vargas, am engaged to Johanna Mejia. I have not only come to refute that claim but to also present to you, my actual fiance..."
I hid behind him like a frightened puppy. Surely he wouldn't happen to be referring to me, would he?
"Aurora Rogers."
The reporters went crazy upon mention of my name, taking multiple shots all at once. I turned to him with a glare, "Are you crazy?" But he ignored me, his eyes fully focused ahead.
"I hope you'll write a worthy article out of this
information I just shared with you all."
With that, he pulled me out of the room, leaving the crowd to go crazy.
