Mu Chen sat cross-legged in the living room, idly playing with his phone. His elder brother, with a warm smile, sat beside him and said, "Young bro, next week is my engagement party. I know you don't like appearing in public, but please, I beg you to attend."
Mu Chen smiled, playfully pointing at his brother's nose. "You silly big brother, how could I not attend your engagement party?"
His brother patted his shoulder. "I knew your behavior."
"Ahh, bro, but who is my sister-in-law?"
"No, I won't tell you. I want to surprise you. You'll see her on the engagement day."
"Oh, then I won't tell you about my girlfriend either."
"What? You found a girlfriend? Who is she?"
"I won't tell you. I'll invite her to your engagement, and when she comes, I'll introduce her to you."
"Silly bro, okay."
---
Jing Ning's phone rang. "Oh, it's Mu Chen," she said, picking up the call with a smile and a hint of joy. "Hello?"
"Hello, Ning. How are you?"
"I'm fine, and how are you?"
"I just called to ask about your health and to see if you're free. I want to invite you to my brother's engagement next Saturday."
"Okay, don't worry. I will come. Where is the venue?"
"It's at Crystal Hotel, Bouquet Hall 002."
"Okay, no problem."
"Okay, bye. I love you."
"Love you too. Bye."
---
Jing Ning sat on the bedside with her best friend, Meng Xian, who glared at her with a hint of sadness in her eyes. "Who called you? Was it Mu Chen?"
"Yes, what's wrong?"
Meng Xian sighed. "Jing Ning, let's talk seriously. You know your wedding with Xilian is in two months, and you still accepted Mu Chen. You didn't even worry about your ill—"
Before she could finish, Jing Ning hurriedly put her hand on Meng Xian's lips and whispered, "Shhh, don't dare to talk about my illness in this house. I don't want anybody to know about it. As for my wedding with Xilian, I know how to deal with it."
Meng Xian smiled. "Okay, I hope you make a move before everything gets out of hand."
Jing Ning hugged Meng Xian from behind. "Don't worry, you already know your Jing Ning."
"Okay, I'm leaving. I have a meeting to attend at the company."
Jing Ning teased her. "Okay, Miss CEO, let me walk you out."
---
As they went downstairs, they saw Mrs. Jing busy in the living room. Mrs. Jing raised her eyes. "Oh, Meng Xian, are you leaving? Won't you stay for lunch?"
"Thank you, Aunt, but I have a meeting to attend."
Mrs. Jing gave Jing Ning a hard glare, then turned to Meng Xian. "My good girl, you are not like Jing Ning. You always help your parents with the company, not like Ning. She doesn't even want to interfere in the company's affairs."
"Aunt, it's not like what you think. You all misunderstood Ning. She wants to help you, but she just wants to get married before she takes over the company." After saying this, Meng Xian turned and gave Jing Ning a warning look.
"I hope so," said Mrs. Jing.
Jing Ning asked, "Mom, I see you're busy preparing for something. What are you preparing for?"
"Oh, I'm just preparing an engagement party for my friend's daughter."
"Oh, I see."
Jing Ning and Meng Xian walked out of the living room. After they completely disappeared, Mrs. Jing breathed a sigh of relief and said to herself, **"Thank God she doesn't understand it's her engagement party."**
Outside, Meng Xian asked, "Ning, do you think this isn't your engagement party?"
"No, no, no, I don't think so."
"Okay."
