Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

The dojo's silence hung heavy in the air as Igata Kuyori squared off against his mentor, Kiya Shuke, for their first sparring session. The anticipation and energy in the room were palpable as Igata aimed a punch at Kiya. However, the seasoned martial artist sidestepped it effortlessly, a hint of amusement in his voice as he said, "You've got to do better than that."

Igata's frustration spurred him into action. With extreme speed, he slipped to Kiya's side and launched a series of hooks and punches toward Kiya's ribs. But the seasoned fighter blocked each blow with a casual ease that was disheartening to Igata. In response, Kiya delivered a swift kick to Igata's stomach, sending him hurtling across the room.

Mid-flight, Igata managed to twist his body and kick off the ground, propelling himself back at Kiya. With newfound determination, he threw a direct punch toward Kiya's head. However, Kiya deflected the punch with a calculated headbutt, causing Igata's hand to throb with pain.

Before Kiya could finish his sentence, Igata unleashed a spinning kick, aiming for Kiya's body. Kiya, always one step ahead, caught Igata's leg in mid-air. Igata, undeterred, delivered a nudge to Kiya's face. It connected but caused no damage as Kiya simply moved Igata's body around, expertly throwing him to the ground.

Slightly injured and now lying on the ground, Igata looked up at Kiya, his expression a mix of anger and determination. Kiya, unfazed, decided to halt the sparring session. "Let's stop here and work on other areas," he said calmly. "You seem to have a lot of fighting experience, but you're not strong or fast enough to inflict damage. We need to improve that."

Igata's anger quickly transformed into eagerness upon hearing that he would become stronger. Little did Kiya know that even in this brief sparring session, Igata had already become stronger and faster. It was evident that Igata possessed innate potential that was waiting to be unlocked.

Kiya instructed Igata to practice on a heavy bag designed to measure the force and joules generated by each strike. It was a tangible way to gauge Igata's progress in strength and striking power. Kiya demonstrated by striking the bag, which displayed an impressive 5200 joules of force.

Igata, eager to try, stepped up to the bag. With a burst of speed, he delivered a powerful punch. The display showed 350 joules of force. Igata was astounded, and Kiya couldn't hide his surprise either. "Wow," Kiya remarked, "I didn't expect you to achieve this much progress so early in your training. You truly do have incredible potential."

Kiya Shuke initiated Igata Kuyori's training regimen with a series of fundamental exercises. Their daily routine commenced with a focus on building core strength and muscle endurance.

Kiya guided Igata to the wooden bar fixed securely to the ceiling, where the teenager began a set of weighted pull-ups. With each controlled ascent, Igata's muscles strained against the heavy resistance, his arms flexing with determined effort. The pull-ups not only targeted his back and biceps but also engaged his core, promoting overall stability and balance.

Transitioning seamlessly, Kiya directed Igata to the worn mat on the floor, where he embarked on a series of weighted push-ups. Igata's muscles trembled with the exertion, the added weight pressing down on him as he lowered his chest to the ground. The push-ups served to enhance his upper body strength and fostered the development of his chest, shoulders, and triceps, laying the foundation for a formidable physique.

Next, they moved to a set of parallel bars, where Igata undertook weighted dips with unwavering determination. The exercise targeted his triceps and chest muscles, enhancing both strength and endurance. Each controlled dip pushed his limits, building a reservoir of power that would serve him well in the battles to come.

As their training progressed, Kiya introduced Igata to the rigors of pistol squats, a challenging exercise that tested both strength and balance. With additional weights in hand, Igata's legs flexed and strained, his movements measured and deliberate. The pistol squats targeted his quadriceps, hamstrings, and glutes, fostering lower body strength and stability, essential components in the pursuit of overall physical prowess.

In addition to the rigorous strength training, Kiya emphasized the importance of agility and speed, incorporating shadow boxing into their routine. Igata's form and technique were honed through a series of fluid and precise movements, his punches and footwork blending seamlessly as he danced across the worn mat. The shadow boxing sessions not only sharpened Igata's combat skills but also improved his cardiovascular endurance, ensuring he would remain a force to be reckoned with in the heat of battle.

Recognizing the significance of grip strength in combat, Kiya incorporated specialized handgrip training into Igata's regimen. With a variety of grip strengtheners and resistance tools at their disposal, Igata's hands and forearms were put to the test. The exercises targeted the muscles in his hands, wrists, and forearms, enhancing his ability to maintain a firm grasp on weapons and opponents alike.

Kiya then turned to leave, saying, "Well, for today, the training is done. You can go home, if you have one. I don't care about your personal life; I only care about tapping into your potential and helping you grow, kid. If you want to stay here and keep punching the bag, go ahead. I'll be in another room of this dojo watching TV. See you."

Kiya left the room, leaving Igata alone with the heavy bag. Igata sat on the ground, lost in thought, as images of countless hours of training and boxing footage raced through his mind. He whispered to himself, "I've got to do this and that, move my entire body into the punch, not just my hand."

With newfound determination, Igata stood up and returned to the bag, his fists moving with precision and purpose. The journey to unlock his hidden potential had only just begun, and he was determined to become stronger with each punch.
