The spell "Lesser fireball" is a very common spell amongst apprentice-level mages. It is also well-suited for this type of warfare,, as this spell could deal with a group of enemy's ordinary elite soldiers with a single attack.
Now, the apprentice-level mages on Punk's side joined forces, casting more than ten of these spells at the same time. A dozen fireballs burning with blazing flames flew toward the professional carrying siege ladders. Those ladders had various runes drawn on them.
However, when the fireballs neared the target, the enemy's mages reacted by casting the same spell. At the apprentice level, using offensive spells to counter the enemy's offensive spells is the usual defensive method.
Punk watched as multiple fireballs appeared from behind the enemy's formation. Most of the fireballs from his side were accurately hit in mid-air. After that, a group of huge fiery clouds lit up the sky, even though it was daytime. Then, the remaining bits of magical spells fell like rain on the battlefield. This rain of fire struck many enemy soldiers. The flames, which still had a little bit of mana left, could not be extinguished by ordinary soldiers, and it continued to burn on their bodies. These flames were very hot, nearly a thousand degrees, and only a few seconds after the flames touched the soldier's iron armor, the armors turned bright red. The soldiers ran wildly and screamed miserably while their skin and flesh inside the armour made a sizzling sound. Quickly, all of them died, and their bodies fell on the ground, and a fishy smell of burned meat is exuding from them.
"However, the enemy's professionals remained unharmed; the remaining flames alone couldn't penetrate their powerful battle Qi defenses. They paid no attention to the agonizing cries of the burning soldiers and charged persistently towards the city wall with a fierce battle cry."
The enemies also cast multiple fireballs, and the defending mages quickly blocked them. However, due to their sheer number, some fireballs successfully hit the city wall. This resulted in a large number of broken stones and wood being blasted into the sky, along with some charred stumps of flesh. "But overall, it caused more damage to the enemy, as they all gathered near the wall. As a result, the enemy army's unified and orderly formation was disrupted. Small fires were burning throughout the battlefield, and because of them, the temperature around the battlefield rose over 40 degrees and the heated air created a distorted image of the entire battlefield."
Despite all this, the enemy soldiers did not lose their morale; instead, they became more crazy and bloodthirsty! Because, all of them knew that the current situation would end very soon.
"The siege ladders had already been placed on the sturdy but short walls of Konola City. Some warriors tried to chop the ladder, but the flashing runes on the sturdy ladder made the attempts of apprentice-level warriors completely useless. Even trainee-level fighters could only make a few small cuts on the ladder."
"An alchemy ladder! Prince William seems to have received funding from the king!"
Punk frowned slightly. This kind of alchemy ladder might be low-level and simple in principle, but it could create a massive advantage in warfare between the ordinary armies. And, it also came with a very high cost.
"In the Pheren plane, where a kingdom's strength was measured by the number of alchemical items and professionals, using them in a battle is nothing but luxury. Even if someone possessed such equipment, they'd keep it hidden as a secret weapon and wouldn't use it in an unimportant battles. Only an empire, which is dozens of times stronger than a kingdom, could use such items casually.
"It seems that the enemy doesn't want to let the princess go at any cost!"
Punk also noticed that the enemy had brought only lightweight equipment like magic ladders. Undoubtedly, it is to speed up the pursuit. Which means they didn't bring any siege equipment...
"Boom!"
A loud noise came from the south of the city wall!
...
A few seconds ago-
"Seeing that Mage McNeesey ignored him and was about to cast a powerful spell, the Commander-in-Chief, Lunka, became red with anger. He stood up from his seat and rushed toward the city wall, while roaring loudly:
"McNeesey, in your dreams."
Faced with Commander Lunka's charge, Mage McNeesey, who had intended to cast a spell to destroy all the alchemy ladders at once, had to interrupt his casting to deal with Lunka's war hammer, which was already dangerously close to himself."
...
Punk only heard an earth-shattering roar. And after that, a large number of stones, which were originally a part of the city wall, started to fell from the sky. Every larger stone that fell from on the battlefield mashed a large group of ordinary soldiers and created potholes filled with flesh and blood all over the battlefield.
Of course, many boulders were also thrown inside the city. In Punk's view, many houses and shops that were intact a few moments ago now had turned into rubble and shredded wood chips under the showers of stones. The original prosperous Konola City is now filled with devastated and mournful cries of ordinary citizens.
But Punk paid more attention to the battle on the other side of the city wall. The southern side of the wall appeared to be hit as if it were struck by a very powerful missile.
And due to such fierce confrontation between two official-level powerhouses, most of the city wall in that part has collapsed, and the gap is still expanding.
As both official-level powerhouses fought with all their might, their actions were so fast that even Punk could hardly perceive them. To him, it seemed like Mage McNeesey was doing his best to prevent Lunka from destroying the city wall.
However, even though the city wall had a massive hole, no one, not even the fearless warriors, dared to cross it, as it was now the battlefield of two official-level powerhouses.
Feeling the constant vibration from the ground and the city walls beneath his feet, Punk shook his head.
"Now, I should take care of my own business!"

The trainee-level spell "Firey domain" is relatively unpopular. It has such low lethality that it's hard to consider it as a trainee-level spell. Its main effect is to create a large area with intense heat of about 500 degrees. For trainee-level professionals, it would only cause some discomfort, nothing more.
This spell was designed for use in regular wars involving ordinary people. Trainee-level mages typically studied it as an academic reference. However, today, this seemingly useless spell is about to reveal its dark and terrifying side.
This spell is designed to be used in ordinary people's wars. Trainee-level mages generally study it as an academic reference, but today, this seemingly useless spell is showing its hideous and terrifying side.
Punk creates a subtle orange-yellow ring of fire on the battlefield. In a field full of small and large flames, this small ring of fire goes unnoticed. The enemy soldiers were quickly climbing up the alchemy ladders while also stepping on their companion's bodies without hesitation.
In just few seconds, the orange-red ring of fire expanded to an area about the size of three basketball courts, and the temperature inside the ring of fire increased rapidly. In just a few seconds, the temperature in that area reached about four hundred degrees. At this high temperature, the rocks on the ground started turning red, and large cracks began to appear on them.
The soldiers began to sweat profusely, but before it could escape their pores, it boiled in their skin. Every breath they took in the air, they felt as if they were inhaling searing lava into their lungs. Every inch of their skin began to carbonize, and oil started to drip from their bodies, just like a roasted goose in a microwave oven. In less than a minute, the screaming and convulsing enemy soldiers inside the ring of fire were burnt entirely, and they became like a black mummy.
There is no such thing as humanitarianism in this new world. Some of Punk's ruthless teammates even shouted their approval after seeing this horrific scene.
Of course, some rookies who had never witnessed the brutality of war began to shake and vomit uncontrollably.
"Maybe this will help these rookies snap out of their naive heroic dreams! Consider it my as a seniors sincere lesson."
Punk smiled and let out a quick whistle.
"The first wave of soldiers is cleared... this might also let these annoying flies with sky-high morale know what the sentence "grinding bones and pulling out tendons" means!
Punk thought lightheartedly while looking at the carbonized bodies wearing red armors.
