Chapter 1 - Prologue

"The moon dragon next to me is a spy!!!" Said a female white and black moon dragon in a throne room. The throne room had gold lining the walls, the paint red. Magnificent silver pillars line the room, there was an empty space where the ceiling was at the halfway point of the throne room walls. The ceiling curved into a dome, one of the walls of the empty space had half of a dome. In the empty space is where the throne sat. "So your mate Nephuse is a spy," said the man that sat on the throne, she was taken aback by what the little man said next. "Did you lay eggs Nectra?" Nephuse, the dragon chained to a flat cart, looked at her pleading. Nectra looked at him, then looked away, she shook her head. "No sire, I did not," she was lying, but the man did not know. His pudgy face squinted at her suspiciously, "You and your mate have 2 hours to say goodbye!" "Yes my lord," said Nectra, bowing politely. She stopped bowing and started to walk towards the giant silver door. Once opened by the guards' dark magic, she stopped. Nectra didn't know why, but dark magic made her head hurt. The man snapped at her, this gesture was pretty familiar. "Get out, dragon, he will be out shortly!" Nectra clenched her jaw shut, why did this always happen? Walking out she pinched the bridge of her nose. Nephuse came running out after her, "Nectra wait for me!!" He slightly yelled. Nectra looked at him, the hallway was dark but in the sunlight it was just as beautiful as the throne room. She scoffed as Nephuse skidded to a stop. "Why are you an idiot?" She asked him plainly. "Ouch" Nephuse said, putting a hand over his heart dramatically. Nectra rolled her eyes, turned on her heel, and walked away. "Whatever traitor." She said walking away It took a minute for Nephuse to realize that she rolled her eyes at him. "Wait a second, I never got to explain." He cried, his voice echoed a little bit. "You don't even know the whole story…" Nephuse said, running up to her again. She scoffed again, "1) I trusted you and you betrayed me, 2) You lied to me for MONTHS Nephuse!!!" It was at this point the Nephuse and Nectra stopped walking, the echo of her yelling echoed In a stairwell they entered earlier. The stone stairs were uneven under her feet, the gray walls had only two torches lit. Some stones protruded from the rock walls. The shadows from the two dragons danced on the walls. In the dimly lit place, she could barely see the granite on his wings, or the whites in his eyes. "3) Why should I not think you're lying to me after all the LIES YOU TOLD ME," she yelled again, and Nectra didn't care if someone heard her. Nephuse was taken aback, Nectra looked out the window next to her. The moon was full tonight, the starry sky had no cloud blocking its view. The moon itself almost seemed to call to her. Nephuse took this moment to get closer to her, looking out at the moon as well. "That would been where you hatched if a moon dragon wasn't kidnapped and tortured in to submissiveness by King Hunter." A tear welled in her eye, she took a few steps back. "I don't believe you, '' Nectra said, shaking her head. Disbelief washed over her. It couldn't be true, the King had raised her. "Say, Nectra, have you ever actually seen the dungeons." Nectra shook her head, "This castle" Nephuse sighed, "yes there is and in the dungeon there is a secret chamber where King Hunter holds tortured moon dragons trying to get them to take him to the moon. He wants to take more of them for slaves. I can show you proof of it. and the so-called executions aren't real. He takes the dragons down there to torture them." Nephuse seemed to talk about it angrily, but Nectra still didn't believe him. "Then show me your so-called proof," she said in an aggressive-mocking tone. Nephuse raised an eyebrow and smiled, "allow me," he said in a calm and collected tone. Nephuse turned on his heel and slowly walked away, Nectra followed him. While winding through the castle, Nephuse seemed to check every door. "Aha" he said suddenly, pushing it open, the door opened into a room. "This is just a normal room," she scoffed, "We're not going over there yet" said Nephuse in a know it all tone. He called someone's name Nectra had not talked to quite often, but out came a red lightning dragon. The dragon was rubbing his eyes, then he noticed Nephuse and spoke.

"Ugh… oh it's you…" he saw me and continued, "wait why is she here I thought she got you caught…" he said in a whisper, looking between Nephuse and Nectra. Nectra rolled her eyes, and thought "Males, always holding grudges." Suddenly the red lightning dragon's ears perked "No, not always!" He said, holding his hand to his heart like he was hurt. Nephuse raised his eyes. "Ickticar, what'd she think?" He squinted his eyes at her studying. "Not much, just how us 'males' hold a lot of grudges." Groaning, Nectra thought, "Can I think in private." The lightning dragon looked away and coughed, but it sounded more like a word. Had he said "No." "How many dragons are we gonna need?" She asked Nephuse. He looked up thinking, "Just one more." The trio walked all the way around the castle to the king's dragon guard barracks. Of course only the lightning dragon actually entered. The magnificent gold and red curtains were shut after he went in. It was starting to take little while so Nectra started to pace with impatience. She looked at the stone wall, it had it's rough edges. The stones however were packed in with concrete. This allowed them to even the wall and make it stronger. Nectra heard voices coming from the direction of the curtain. She looked. Out came Slaferous, the only sun dragon in the castle and behind him, Ickticar. The sun dragon stopped and glared at Nectra. "You cause disharmony among us all," He said, slowly walking past her. Nectra gritted her teeth. She looked at Nephuse and asked, "Are we going or not?" He laughed nervously and scurried in the direction of his so-called hidden dungeon. When entering the normal dungeon it looked just like everywhere else. Except there were cages with the sizes of human wrists. Nectra soffed, "This is a normal dungeon. I swear if you're lying to me aga—" Nephuse walked over to one of the walls. Taking one of the stones out the wall started to slide. The grinding of the stone hurt Nectra's ears. Wincing she said, "why did they decide to make the trap door out of stone." Ickticar laughed and said, "You obviously know nothing about architecture. This way if something catches fire, the whole place won't be burnt to the ground, but the dungeon underneath will become pretty much an oven." After the stone trap door was fully open, a small wooden one was revealed. Nectra was shocked. Another door? Slaferous blew fire into a half spherical spot in the wood. Air came from the wood and put out the fire, the smoke floating up into the stone and the door seemed secure enough. Though as soon as the smoke entered the rock the door opened into a jagged hall. The rocks pointed in the hall like blades. "It's supposed to keep us out, but Moon dragons are more powerful than the king's mind can comprehend." Nephuse said reaching close to his body he seemed to grab thin air. The grinding of stone sounded again as Nephuse pushed away from his body. The stones moved into a normal (secret of course) hallway. Nectra frowned and said., "Why so many doors and trappy things." "You know how you've never seen the lower dungeon, yeah this is why." Said Nephuse, stepping into the hallway. The others followed, including Nectra. The hall was dark and narrow, Nectra's scales constantly hit the rocks. She also stepped on the dragon's tail in front of her multiple times. Nectra felt the stone dip, as the hall receded into a spiral ramp. The stone became uneven underneath her feet. Whispers were heard through the hallway. Scared voices. The group went down the hallway a little more, before stopping in front of yet another wooden door. This one was different; it was oak, but it had oak filings in it. The door handle looked like a dragon head. Grabbing the handle, Nephuse threw it open. The whispering stopped, other than Nephuse telling the other two to stand guard. Nephuse and Nectra walked in. The door slid closed behind them. Cages lined the walls. The silver was bent all to hell. The floor was dirt. Hay lined cells, but only a few. The air felt hollow, uninviting. The stench of dirtiness filled Nectra's nostrils, scrunching her nose as she looked closer. In the cells were countless dragons. Different species, elemented, but one thing for sure. Bloodied. They looked beaten. There was one single cell in the back. In it, Moon dragons. A bunch of them. Cuts all over their faces and bodies. An almost impossible task, done easily right here. Nectra's breath caught, her legs almost gave out as Nephuse caught her. "This is what the king does to his 'traitors.'" "This… is… torture…" she said, clenching one of her scaled, clawed, hands. Suddenly the door opened and in walked the king. An evil chuckle escaped the man's lips. "HOW DARE YOU!!!" Nectra yelled, a killing curse escaped her lips, but Nephuse ran in front of her. Baring his teeth at the king the spell hit him, and he crumbled like a ragdoll. Nectra widened her eyes. What had she done. The king tilted his head shocked and kicked Nephuse's lifeless body. Then nodded, not lifting his head, he looked at Nectra. "I'm impressed, but still extremely disappointed." He said, he cleared his throat. Nectra sucked in breath to speak another curse, the king wiggled his finger. "Nuh uh uh, I wouldn't do that if you want your eggs to survive." A sinister smile creeped on his face. Nectra gritted her teeth. "We will free them, but you need to sleep." A feeling started to come over her. Digging her claws into the dirt, she forced herself to stay standing. "You're a tough one aren't you?" The king laughed. We took a few steps closer to Nectra, he flicked her forehead. "I said Sleep." Falling, Nectra's eyes closed, her body bounced a little. Then everything was black.
