Chapter 92 - Aliya- The Story of Boumont (3)

"From that day on the two last survivors of the Lyan Tribe and their two sacred dragons of the Tiylin tribe went on what could only be described as a rampage. No one knew when and where the two dragon riders would appear. They wiped out small tribes in hours.

The larger tribes could not help but notice what was going on with their weaker neighbors. At first, they simply kept an eye on the issue. After all, except the Missari, who were relatively large, every other tribe hit had been taken out by only two riders and their dragons. The first must have been a lucky chance and in the eyes of the other chieftains the two responsible knew that they couldn't take on the larger tribes.

This was not actually what Boumont and Girl were thinking, it was more accurate to say they weren't thinking at all. Girl was living as herself, she was finally allowed to be unrestrained and to follow all her instincts. She and Bet were of one mind and similar souls, they reveled in a good hunt. As for Boumont, he had simply given himself over to the oblivion of a childish tantrum and Ent felt he had no choice but to go along with it. Boumont had always held it in, always pushed down any resentment, anger, hatred, or anything negative that might get in his way of survival. Now, he just didn't care, he let himself be taken over by pure emotion. He killed indescriminately, his mind was fixed on the idea that if his tribe was dead then no one else had the right to live either.

They may have continued on like that until they were inevitably killed if it weren't for what came next."

It was at this point that Tate took a pause in the story and took several long leisurely bites of his sandwich.

Aliya was bunching up the blanket beneath her hands and was staring at him wide-eyed, waiting for him to continue.

She was about to get frustrated when he swallowed, looked at her and she saw it. Faintly, in the corner of his mouth where hardly anyone else would notice was a definite smirk. She wanted to smack him but he continued the story cutting off her other thoughts.

"No one knows the name of Boumont's famous advisor. He just appeared one day. No one even knows how he came to be with them. The narrator of that book, who is a very reliable witness, never addresses it."

She cocked her head at the strange information. He'd temporarily broken from the way he was telling the story.

"No one?"

He shook his head and continued. "The Advisor was suddenly there one day. It was noted in history by the people of the Yaka Tribe that he was there because members of that tribe actually survived. This marked the first time since their rampage began that members of a defeated tribe were allowed to live.

Women and children were allowed to keep their lives in exchange for something simple. They were to renounce the Yaka name and live under the Lyan Tribe. The advisor whispered something in Boumont's ear as he looked down at his captives and Boumont also requested to be led to their nesting ground.

Each tribe had a secret nesting ground where their dragons lay and cared for their eggs. It was a sacred place that he hadn't bothered to look for at any of his previous massacres.

A young woman led him to the nest and he and Girl wrapped six eggs into large clothes and their dragons flew them away to an unknown location. As for the survivors, Boumont and Girl stayed in their village for two months. It was not a bad deal for the former members of the Yaka Tribe. At first, they were terrified of the beings who had cut down their brothers, fathers, husbands, and dragons. Of course, they were still terrified, but they were unharmed. They were also fed since the pair took care of all the hunting. In those two months, the women were surprised to find that although they could not erase the resentment and hatred from their hearts they had to admit that their living conditions had greatly improved. Not only were their children fed, but new homes were built to replace the ones burned down. Several large and nice homes that the women and children comfortably shared.

Soon the village was unrecognizable as the poor village it once was that rested against the base of a mountain. Boumont even began to build more homes than was needed but he didn't allow the new Lyan tribe members to move into them.

The Advisor was always there, always watching, and always whispering in the ear of Boumont. Boumont was recognized as their new chief and they knew how powerful he was. More terrifying than him was the woman, Girl, who looked at the women like she was going to tear them to bits. Boumont kept her from doing any harm but no woman was comfortable around her.

Boumont, Girl, Bet, and Ent began leaving the village regularly for weeks on end. When they returned, they returned with more eggs and people to move into the newly constructed houses. While they were gone the Advisor stayed and overlooked the new tribe.

Slowly but surely Boumont and Girl worked their way up to the middle-level tribes. It was then that the inevitable started to happen. Humans are attracted to power, and Boumont was becoming something of a legend. People had taken to calling him General Boumont, Chief of the Lyan Tribe.

Men dissatisfied with their own lives, positions, or greed flocked to him to join his tribe. A few dragon riders joined him. Under the advice of the Advisor, Boumont allowed any regular warrior who joined him the chance to touch one of the eggs they'd collected without having to pass any tests. The only thing that was required was a vow of loyalty to the Lyan Tribe. If a dragon hatched to them they joined Boumont and Girl on their raids, if it did not they were tasked to build the village into a city and to defend the tribe.

Almost overnight Boumont's forces rivaled that of the Tiylin. None of this could go on forever though and the Tiylin, the Morca, and the Vane all banded together to attack the new city that the Lyan Tribe had built. They waited until Boumont, Girl, and the dragon riders they had acquired left to raid before they attacked.

The warriors on the ground did their best, but there was not much to be done when you were attacked by the combined force of the three largest tribes dragon riders.

Boumont, Girl, and the dragon riders with them returned to ashes. The only creature that survived was the Advisor. He told Boumont that he had hidden himself away with the eggs.

Boumont was enraged that all he had built had been burned. He retreated with Girl, the Advisor, the eggs, and his warriors high up into the mountains. For one year there was silence from 'General Boumont.'

The Tiylin, Morca, and Vane were at this point members of only eight tribes left on the continent. The five others were mid-sized tribes who lived to the south on the coast. The three remaining large tribes of the north traded information and cooperated on a level previously unseen in an effort to strengthen their defenses just in case. They anticipated a quick and decisive attack from General Boumont and his remaining people.

After the year had passed the tribes began to relax their guard. Nothing had been heard of Boumont's tribe, no scouts had even seen a wing in the air over the near the mountains.

It was dead of night when they came, just like Boumont and Girl's first massacre no one was on alert. However, the three tribes had come up with a communication system with each other, and not long after the attack on the Tiylin began the Morca and Vane riders were on their way.

The battle lasted for three days. It was bloody, fiery, savagery, a true spectacle of claws, blades, fire, and an assortment of other dragon talents. men were scalded alive by boiling water, poisoned with the death flower, and crushed by boulders. Each side was lucky enough to have a mana-type dragon who could shield which is what prolonged the fighting for so long. As it happened this became an advantage for General Boumont. Since his forces were smaller his shielding dragon could protect more of his riders at once. As for the three tribes, the number of their dragon riders was so large that the shielding dragon on their side could only do so much.

This essentially evened the playing field by the end of the second day. Boumont's riders had picked off two-thirds of the three tribe's riders. On the last day, it was a man-to-man, dragon-to-dragon battle. The Advisor heavily influenced the ideal match-ups that Boumont's riders were to aim for. This strategy was mostly effective and played a large part in General Boumont's eventual victory.

Three of the greatest tribes lay in waste. The population of all the northern tribes of the continent had been reduced to one-twentieth of their previous numbers. The most powerful man alive became General Boumont.

Boumont wasted no time after his victory in offering the survivors of the Tiylin, Morca, and Vane the same offer he had made to his other conquests. They begrudgingly took it and Boumont had the great pleasure of making those of the Tiylin tribe slaves to his new Lyan Tribe. He rebuilt the city he had started. The foundation of which lay on the ashes and corpses of his first attempt.

The Advisor insited that he make a throne for himself and establish not just a tribe but a nation. After all he now possesed most of the northern lands since he had personally wiped out thier previous owners.

He called his new terriory Lya, and Boumont was the first King of the Lyan Kingdom."
