We were both too weak for expedition work beyond the city walls, there was no guarantee that something like what had already happened to Reina wouldn't happen again.
At the same time we didn't have a profession in mind, we both spent our adolescence trying to become adventurers and after failing in this mission we were stuck in jobs with very low wages.
The situation was even worse for me, until a few days ago I received an allowance that served to cover my expenses periodically, it wasn't a lot of money actually, only my terrible eating habits gave me enough savings to pay off Reina's parents' debt and make these purchases for the house.
The day had been full and it didn't take us long to fall asleep.
When the first rays of sunlight came through the small window that was almost on the ceiling of the room, I felt Reina's movements getting ready to get out of bed.
In the previous days we spent most of them lying down lost in our thoughts, feeling her get up as soon as she woke up made me feel heavy in my heart.
I knew I wasn't suffering from love at first sight, which makes the protagonists of children's books silly, since we were classmates for more than a year at school.
But I was clearly in love with the feeling she made me feel, after so long the problems seemed so small when I was with her. And those honey eyes were too captivating for me to think about anything else.
"Where are you going"? – I asked a little sleepily.
I felt a kiss on my cheek.
"I'm going to heat water so we can take a bath and make breakfast." – she whispered in a sweet tone.
It was a little embarrassing to think that she was stronger than me, but even though she was significant, she wasn't really big. While I was stuck at the peak of the first star of both Warrior and Mage, Reina was a 2-Star Warrior.
I rubbed my eyes and decided not to let her do everything alone. We needed a few bucket trips to the well to fill the heater, the furnace and stove needed to be lit and fed, all before I could think about eating or bathing.
We divided the tasks and managed to finish everything much sooner than a single person could.
I ate eggs and bread before she came out of the bathroom with her wet hair wrapped in a white towel. My eyes didn't stop following that vision until she closed the bedroom door.
"Don't take too long, otherwise the eggs will get cold!" – I shouted after realizing that I was standing there like a fool.
I could have sworn she was laughing inside the room, but when I tried to focus to make sure the only noise I could hear was from the bedroom drawers and closet doors.
I left that aside and quickly took my shower.
When I left the bathroom with the towel around my waist I felt her eyes following me from the kitchen, but unlike me, she soon turned her attention to breakfast.
When I was leaving the house I couldn't resist and planted a kiss on her lips. As soon as we separated our lips, our foreheads touched and I could see the smile on Reina's face.
"I'm going to look for a job in the shopping district, the warehouses don't hire women, so I need to find a job in a store or restaurant." – she said in an explanatory tone.
Although there was no difference between the strength of men and women after the awakening, the nature of manual labor and women's preference for other jobs eventually led to the creation of the unwritten rule, warehouses do not hire women.
"You can try the warehouses and also the shopping district." – she completed.
I agreed with her and headed towards the warehouse district in the north of the city, while Reina went to the east, where the commercial district was located, where most of the city's shops, restaurants and inns were located.
I spent most of the day going from warehouse to warehouse trying to find one that would accept me as a helper, only when the sun was starting to set did I finally get a yes.
The Blue Trading Company Warehouse had a vacancy for an assistant with the 1-Star Warrior prerequisite. There were openings at other warehouses with openings, but they all required at least 3-Star Warriors.
The work wasn't difficult, but it wasn't easy either. My duties were basically as a cleaner, I had to keep the transport routes inside the warehouse clean so as not to obstruct the passage of transport cars.
With everything arranged, a salary sufficient to pay for food and other monthly needs, I returned home with the promise of returning early in the morning the next day.
When I opened the door I saw Reina's silhouette sitting at the table drinking a mug of tea.
"Were you lucky today?" – she asked seeing me enter.
I smiled sincerely seeing the emotions in her eyes. Apparently we were both lucky.
"Yes." – I replied satisfied.
