'Hey Jess, are you still coming or not. We are supposed to meet, remember?'
'Oh! Hey Katie my best friend who I love so dearly. I am so sorry, can we reschedule the date. Mat asked me out today and I agreed to go with him. I am sorry but I will surely make it up to you, I promise.'
'That's what you always say Jessica. This is the fifth time we had to reschedule our date. All I ever wanted was to have lunch with my best friend, Jess and chat like the old times. Ever since Mat came into your life it seems as if I hold no importance in your life anymore.'
'You know that's not true Katie, you mean the world to me and I love you Katie pie.'
'I wish I could believe that Jess. Goodbye and have fun on your date,' she said already hanging up. Tears were already starting to form in her eyes down her that she got up and left the restaurant in a hurry so no one could see them but as she left she dropped her scarf.
Jessica and Katie have been best friends since pre- school, they did everything together, went everywhere together. They even bought the same clothes and twinned whenever they went out. A lot of people envied their friendship. People used to think they were twins because of how similar they looked and how they used to match. It was even hard for some to tell them apart but they managed to tell who is who when they got older. Jess grew up to be livelier, more girlish; she enjoyed wearing fashionable shorts and tank tops, and she was a diva. Wherever she went she gained attention. Katie on the other side was more reserved, sensitive, and sporty; she preferred to wear tracksuits over some girlish clothes Jess was into. She never went around looking for attention.
Two days later Kate decided to go to grab some coffee at the same restaurant because it was her favorite restaurant ever and it made the best coffee, well everyone in town thought so too. A very handsome guy appeared at her table.
'Hey Katie, your name is Katie am I right? You dropped your scarf the other day and left in hurry so I couldn't catch up with you, here.' He said extending his hand towards her. Katie just froze mesmerized by his beauty.
'Excuse me Katie, your scarf.' He was a little annoyed that Katie just kept staring at him but something about her eyes that soothed him. He saw so much pain yet strength in them.
'Oh thank you, I was kind of lost in my thoughts. But how do you know my name.' 'I overheard your conversation with your friend the other day. I am so sorry for eavesdropping.'
'It's okay; I think God is to blame for giving us such powerful ears' she said in a chuckle. 'May I take a seat?'
'Yeah sure, so since you know my name do you mind telling me yours?' She said staring deeply into his ocean blue eyes.
'Oh how forgetful of me. My name is_' he paused with a mischievous smile on his face. 'My name is Mephistopheles.'
Katie instantly squirted the coffee which landed right on his face and clothes. 'What kind of a name is that? Where are you from? Is that even English?'
'It's just a joke, I wanted to get your reaction so don't worry it's not my real name. I don't even know what it means but it was ranked as one of the top baby names for boys in 2015.'
'Who names their child Mestopheles? I don't even know how it's spelt let alone pronounce it.' 'I think I need to go change before bees' starts thinking I am nectar. The name is Mephistopheles, spelt M-e-p-h-i-s-t-o-p-h-e-l-e-s.'
'What a long name and uh, I am really sorry about that; I didn't realize I ruined your shirt. Take my scarf and wipe yourself with it and I will borrow you my jacket if you don't mind.' She empathized.
'There is no need to take the trouble moreover it's not that bad. I mean look at this stain, it looks like the map of Africa. This is artistic.' He gushed over his now ruined white t-shirt.
'Come on silly, it's a little windy outside and you are drenched. Just take my jacket please I insist.' She had a point, even he knew it but didn't want to feel less manly for been offered a jacket by a girl; it had to be the other way round. But does he have a choice, he regretted not brining a jacket with him when he left his house that morning, if he did he wouldn't be in such a position. 'But what will you wear? I don't want you catching cold because of me.' He wasn't worried she will catch a cold, he was worried about what people will say when they saw him walking around in a girly jacket, and they may assume he is gay. Well a lot of people were already thinking he is gay, maybe because of his cuteness or because he has never had a girl friend.
'Don't worry about me, I am wearing a turtleneck.' 'Okay, since you are insisting, I will wear it.' He finally gave in. It was a bit too tight around his muscular torso, Katie ended up laughing at him.
'Can you please stop laughing already, people are now looking at our direction, and they will soon start laughing at me as well.' He said in annoyance.
'Okay okay, sorry.' She looked curiously into his eyes. 'Why am I so comfortable talking to you like we have been friends for ages?'
'I don't know, maybe am friendly. I am also surprised because this is the first time I ever felt comfortable around someone during our first meet.' Katie nodded in agreement.
'Oh I need to get going, I promised my mom that I will help her out in preparing today's lunch, my grandparents are coming over so… I guess I will catch up with you later. Hold on, how am I going to give you your jacket, I don't even know where you stay.'
'We will surely meet again in this restaurant; I come here all the time.' 'Cool. See you soon.' As he started to leave, Katie felt lonely and wished he could have stayed a little longer. God must have been on her favor because he started walking back towards her.
'Hey, my name is Jaylen by the way. It was a pleasure meeting you Katie.' 'It was also a pleasure Jaylen, nice name you got.' 'Thanks, bye Katie.' 'Bye' she reluctantly waved back, him leaving meant she will be left all alone with no one to keep her company.
