Chereads / Singularity: Lord of Mysteries / Chapter 91 - Viva La Vida

Chapter 91 - Viva La Vida

Sep 21th, 1349 of the Fifth Epoch

♫ I used to rule the world ♫

♫ Seas would rise when I gave the word ♫

♫ Now in the morning, I sleep alone ♫

Through the gentle breeze of the forest, a giant ape with a grey-hooded human atop its head travelled under the light of dawn. A new day had just arrived, and yet the Giant Ape did not stop walking, and neither did the human stop it, or give to any further instructions.

♫ Sweep the streets I used to own ♫

♫ I used to roll the dice ♫

♫ Feel the fear in my enemy's eyes ♫

'The monster is really good at making sounds with its human mouth, despite clearly not being human. Whatever it is, this 'music' it's making is really pleasing to the ears,' the giant ape thought to itself.

♫ Listen as the crowd would sing ♫

♫ Now the old king is dead, long live the king ♫

♫ One minute, I held the key ♫

Tears continued rolling from Max's eyes as he did not stop singing. He Just observed the rising sun with melancholy weighing down his heart. It had been a whole day, but he had not checked up with either the priests of his church, or Tome and Ademisaul. He could not think about them at all, as all his mind was occupied with odd emotions.

♫ Next the walls were closed on me ♫

♫ And I discovered that my castles stand ♫

♫ Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand ♫

He felt anger, a great inferno that burned his heart. He felt sadness, a well of immensity that weighed down his thoughts. He felt regret, a fierce beast that clawed at his mind. And, he somehow felt relief.

♫ I hear Jerusalem bells a-ringin' ♫

♫ Roman Cavalry choirs are singin' ♫

♫ Be my mirror, my sword and shield ♫

Relief that the old man's death was not his own fault. Relief that he had almost nothing to do with his death. Relief that he could not blame another for the event, and no longer had to take on all the weight on himself.

♫ My missionaries in a foreign field ♫

♫ For some reason, I can't explain ♫

♫ Once you'd gone, there was never, never an honest word ♫

It was incredibly a hypocritical, sadistic, and downright mentally challenged way of thinking. But it was human nature. It was human nature to find something else to blame for your circumstances. Human nature to find a scape-goat. Human nature to dislodge oneself of fault.

♫ And that was when I ruled the world ♫

♫ It was a wicked and wild wind ♫

♫ Blew down the doors to let me in ♫

And yet, it was also human nature to search for hope. It was for this reason that humans were so willing to follow religion. Religion provided the one thing all humans sough, irrespective of their social, political, or economic status. And if no hope was to be found, then to create hope, and place it upon others.

♫ Shattered windows and the sound of drums ♫

♫ People couldn't believe what I'd become ♫

♫ Revolutionaries wait For my head on a silver plate ♫

Max looked up at the rising sun and finally wiped away his tears. It was not time to rest yet. He had long since realised that his emotional attachment to the old man was a lot stronger than he had told himself it was, and he would no longer deny this fact. He did not like this feeling, of having something, something beautiful and pure, and then having it taken away from you right in front of your eyes.

♫ Just a puppet on a lonely string ♫

♫ Aw, who would ever wanna be king? ♫

♫ I hear Jerusalem bells a-ringin' ♫

Max had experienced it before. It was when that crazy b*tch had killed his parents right in front of his eyes. Back then, he had basically given up on everything until Samuel took over his body and fused with his soul.

♫ Roman Cavalry choirs are singing ♫

♫ Be my mirror, my sword and shield ♫

♫ My missionaries in a foreign field ♫

And he did not like it one bit. Not one bit!

'I will have my vengeance.'

♫ For some reason, I can't explain ♫

♫ I know Saint Peter won't call my name ♫

♫ Never an honest word ♫

Max's watery eyes stopped crying as they turned incredibly resolute. He would no longer just see if he could get revenge, but he would definitely get revenge, one way or another. And the one he would definitely take his revenge from would be…

Adam!

♫ But that was when I ruled the world ♫

'But I will first have to become strong enough to take this revenge. It will take time, but I should be able to do it. As long as I follow my original plan without falling prey to my emotions, I should be able to reach a strength which would allow me to easily take revenge on Him.'

♫ Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh, oh ♫

♫ Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh, oh ♫

♫ Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh, oh ♫

♫ Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh, oh ♫

♫ Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh, oh ♫

Max closed his eyes for a brief moment before opening then and speaking to this giant ape, his voice cracking in the middle of his sentence due to his long period of grief and anger.

"Alright Kong, enough strolling for the night. We will head in that direction. And along the way, get some food for yourself, alright?" He said while patting the head of the creature who had become like a pet to him, a very fast-moving pet.

♫ I hear Jerusalem bells a-ringin' ♫

♫ Roman Cavalry choirs are singin' ♫

♫ Be my mirror, my sword and shield ♫

The odd pair of a monster that had inherited a mind similar to that of a human, and a human whose body and soul had basically become a that of a monster's hiding in the skin of a human, continued to walk as Max continued to sing, finishing the lyrics of the sad yet uplifting song Samuel had remembered.

♫ I know Saint Peter won't call my name ♫

♫ Never an honest word ♫
