Regardless of whether it was feigned or not, Mrs. Karen's demeanor was not like her daughter Inez had described. Either her behavior around Inez was an act, or her behavior in front of everyone else was.
Perhaps both were the real her.
Mrs. Karen said:
"The banquet is ready, Mr. Hewitt, you can go up and take your seat."
Hewitt replied:
"Thank you, I'll be up in a moment."
Mrs. Karen nodded slightly, and then turned around to inform the others that the banquet was prepared.
Hewitt observed Mrs. Karen's retreating figure and her mannerisms.
It seemed that when she was communicating with others, her smile appeared more formal, but when she had just spoken to him, she showed unusual enthusiasm.
Hewitt stood up and left the room.
Today's protagonists were not Mrs. Karen, but rather Inez and George.
Hewitt followed the stairs up to the second floor, where several people had already taken their seats in the hall.
The main characters had yet to arrive.
