Nellie pushed open the door with a cheerful expression.
"Mother, guess who I ran into."
Rebecca asked with a smile:
"Who did you meet?"
Nellie joyfully announced:
"Uncle Hewitt! I met him."
However, to Nellie's surprise, Rebecca didn't show much excitement, but remained calm.
The lady took off her white silk gloves:
"Oh, did you talk to him?"
Nellie frowned slightly:
"Mother, are you not excited?"
Rebecca reached out both hands and placed them on Nellie's shoulders, looking seriously into her daughter's eyes:
"No, I'm not excited, Nellie. Actually, I've already met Hewitt."
Nellie's face showed a puzzled expression:
"But, why didn't you tell me, mother?"
Rebecca shook her head:
"I didn't want to see him."
Nellie blinked in confusion, her voice somewhat hesitant:
"What does that mean?"
Rebecca cupped her daughter's cheeks in her hands, closed her eyes, and took a deep breath:
