Upon exiting the 'Egg-Layer' cave, Bartlett and the others chose a new passage they had never entered before.
This passage was quite spacious, but it contained an unusually high number of living creatures. Many cave beetles, millipedes, centipedes, inch moths, and other strange insects crawled on the rock walls.
Most of these creatures were gray or pale white, and they silently devoured a vibrant azure moss that filled the passage, which was completely devoid of fluorescence.
This large moss covered the entire passage, but did not exist at all in the 'Egg-Layer' cave outside the passage. Perhaps it was because of the existence of this moss that there were so many different species in the passage.
If your hearing was good enough, when you quieted down and listened carefully, you could hear the insects crawling and making the tiniest "squeak" sounds as they gnawed at the moss. The numerous faint sounds merged together, causing one to shudder at their omnipresence.
