Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: Masquerade ball

*In the Sinclair Mansion*

6:35 PM..Catherine looked at herself in the mirror, a brown curly wig covered his red with blond locs, her vertigo skin covered with brown foundation to cover his white skinned spots, the golden piercings and jewellery accompanied her dashing looks, enhancing his beauty with the black one piece and black pants she was wearing..

Sitting in his quiet room, the only sound is the clicking of his hoops as he attached them in his pointy ears, but then a soft knock echoed through the silence of the room, opening quietly as Derick, Catherine's uncle, walked in..

Derick-"Are you sure about this?"

Derick spoke softly, his arms crossed under his chest as he stood by Catherine's chair, his dark brown eyes looking at Catherine into the mirror.

Catherine stayed quiet for a second before sighing softly and nodding.

Catherine- "I'm sure."

Derick looked reluctant, wanting to say something but knowing that whatever he would say wouldn't make Catherine turn back. His eyes closed and he nodded.

Derick-"Fine, that idiot of a fox should be here any minute."

Derick said, his voice coming back to normal as he looks away for a moment, then his gaze turned back at Catherine, his voice more serious now.

Derick-"If anyone recognises you in there, you run, come straight home and you don't leave the mansion only if I'm with you or when this whole thing is done, if they give you any bigger trouble, you know what to do."

Catherine's eyes looked up at Derick, his mouth opening as she wanted to protest against Derick's words, but Derick stopped him, a hand standing in front of her face as to stop him from talking.

Derick-"No. You know as well as I that it's a decision to keep you safe and from anything worse happening."

Catherine paused, both staying quiet as Catherine's eyes looked down. He didn't want to stay inside, she didn't want to do nothing and pretend everything will be having a good ending, but he knew Derick was right, because if someone, by some unfortunate chance, recognised her in there, playing this game will become a lot more dangerous than it already was..

Catherine-"Fine.." He said soft and quietly. Derick nodded.

Derick-"Come on, let's get you down in the main hall, your idiot fox boy should be close by now." Derick said as he reached out his hand for Catherine to take, leading her down the stairs and into the main hall, waiting for the distinguished detective to arrive at the door.

But it was a surprise when they saw Victor standing in the centre of the room, looking at the watch from his wrist, dressed in an old ,dark blue, 70's suit, with silver jewellery pieces and a silver watch, wearing a slicked back, blonde wig, and green eye contacts along with his normal glasses he wears at times. Looking up from the watch, he met eyes with Catherine, his heart quickening for a second before a smile curled on his lips.

Victor-" You look absolutely stunning, my angel!" He said, completely ignoring the daggers that Derick was sending into Victor with his eyes that glared into the fox's soul.

Victor walked up closer to Catherine, taking his hand in his and kissing the back of her hand. Catherine chuckled softly, looking down at Victor with a smile, and Victor would have kept his little act if it wasn't for Derick to push his face away.

Derick-"You keep her safe and you don't allow any of those rats touch him." Derick says with his continuous glare, his pupils turning sharp like the ones of a feline's.

Victor-"Swear by my heart." He said, making a small cross sign over where his heart was, though Derick wasn't all that convinced by Victor's words.

Derick-"Who even let you in? I didn't hear anything coming from the door."

Victor-"I let myself in, I didn't want to ruin my looks for my angel by standing in the rain." Victor said with a grin as he winked at Catherine. Catherine was smiling back but he was holding Derick by the arm so as to not launch at Victor for coming in the mansion as if it was his second home.

Derick-"You- just get her back home safely or so help me!" Derick said his last warning, never leaving his glare off of Victor.

Victor-"Aye Mate." Victor said, with his hands in the air and a smile, then turning his gaze to Catherine and holding a hand out for her to take. "Shall we, my songbird?"

Catherine took a breath in, then exhaled it and took Victor's hand in his.

Catherine-" Let's go." And with that, the plan was in play, and their masquerade ball was just about to begin.

7:05 PM, Victor parked his car in a secluded street, leaving it out of sight from others as they walked through the road that would lead them to the ball, their red and black masks over their faces. Catherine's hells clicked and clacked on the cemented ground as they approached the entrance to the ball, the door was rusty and made of steel, but once inside, bright yellow lights filled the ginormous room, a big glass chandelier on the ceiling and a wide stage with seats and tables surrounding it, the chitter chatter of other undergrounds was perfectly heard over the music of the band playing.

Victor-"Holy shit.." Victor murmured under his breath. "your parties are still better than this."

Catherine-"Please keep your compliments until the end of this,Victor." Catherine whispered back, her hand around Victor's arm so as to play their role for this mission, taking a table with two seats in a corner close to the entrance, Catherine's fur jacket fell off his shoulders, staying on her forearms as he kept an eye for the people in their surroundings.

Victor's fingers slid forward, brushing against Catherine's fingers and smiling at him.

Victor-" Calm down, your suspicions will give you out, we're just well off undergrounds in a masquerade ball." He whispered and Catherine sighed softly.

Catherine-"Right, sorry."

Victor nodded softly at Catherine, still smiling so as to reassure his songbird, but then a strangers voice came from behind Victor.

??-"Greetings, are the two of you new around this part? I don't think I've seen the two of you here before." A low, calm voice spoke, making Victor to turn around and look over his shoulder at the stranger.

Victor-"And you are?"

Rouge-"Oh,where are my manners, Rouge Scott, Mr. Morrigan's right hand man." Rouge extended his hand for Victor to take, asking for Victor to speak his name in return in this small act, a smile curling on his lips. He was pretty tall, about somewhere in between medium and tall height, his coal black hair slicked back but some messy strands sticking out, his skin pale and a few small scars on his face that still stuck out from underneath his mask, his eyes a dark green piercing at Victor's soul.

Victor-"Victor Adams, pleasure meeting you." Victor spoke, shaking Rouge's hand.

Rouge's gaze moved from Victor and started to linger on Catherine, his smile growing as he let go of Victor's hand.

Rouge-"And who might this, enticing, creature be? One of your play things maybe? If so, how much for her, would love to add her to my collection." Rouge spoke with his low and more sinister voice as his eyes didn't move away from Catherine for more than a few seconds.

Victor-"She's not to buy." Victor spoke quickly and harshly , glaring up at Rouge with a spark of anger.

Rouge-"Oh..such a waste, you could make a good handful of money from her, but who am I to criticise." Rouge shrugged his shoulders, his hand behind his back as he looked at Victor, then at Catherine. "Now if you'll excuse me, I got to go on stage in a few minutes. Nice talking to you, mister Adams." And with that, Rouge was gone, leaving Victor with a bitter taste of anger on his tongue, and Catherine with an unease she felt rise up his spine underneath his bodysuit.

Victor-"Thank god he left, I would've left that pretty face of his with the nastiest bruises and scars he had ever seen and felt." Victor grumbled underneath his breath, his eyes closed and his brows furrowed in a strange annoyance. His eyes then opened slightly as he could feel Catherine's unease, it was strong..

His hand impulsively reached for Catherine's, his hand over hers as his thumb traced the outline of his palm, his expression changing completely.

Victor-"It's okay, I won't let any of them rats touch you, I swore that, and I tend to stand by my words." Victor said in his calm, hushed tone, his eyes looking at Catherine, and she could swear he could still see Victor's unique, beautiful, eyes even if he had coloured eye contacts in, it calmed his heart down.

She nodded slowly, smiling at him softly.

Catherine-"Thank you, Victor. We should try to continue-" Catherine's voice stopped when the lights started dimming and the lights averted their attention to the centre of the stage, lighting up Rouge and the Crystal microphone that stood in front of him.

Rouge-"Good evening ladies and gentlemen, I do hope you have been enjoying yourselves , even the ones who had just got here recently. Firstly, I would like to thank all of you for coming to our ball, I assure you all that Mr. Morrigan is extremely thankful. Secondly, I'm sure you all are exited and very impatient for the show tonight, so I won't keep you waiting anymore. Everyone, feast your eyes on the golden ticket for our revenge, the real animals of LA city!" His voice echoed throughout the whole ball.

Then, from behind him, two, large, cages appear from underneath the stage, in them, mutated, humanoid animal bodies, some even combined with different species of, whatever those things were..

Catherine's and Victor's stomachs sunk, their eyes widened and a small sweat drop falling from down their chins as they realised what happened to the kidnapped people…
