Chapter 73 - Mutation

Is today my lucky day? Bernard impatiently put on the necklace, even though the equipment on it seemed a bit peculiar, it was still equipment. Anti-poison, anti-what poison?

But after so many days, he hadn't seen a single piece of equipment. If there's any, it'll do! Are there any other equipment? The trinkets that the girl was wearing might be equipment, who knows. His gaze greedy, he rushed to the door of another bedroom and kicked the door open with one foot. He didn't see anything on the girl. If there's any, it might be in another room!

"Bang!" The door was kicked open. In the room, there were piles of single-soldier rations and all sorts of canned goods, stuffing the room to the brim.

"Oh damn, there's so much food! Boss, we hit the jackpot!"

Several of his underlings stared in amazement at the food in the room, instinctively picking up a can of fruit, drooling.

Bernard was excited. Food, supplies, and even things to play with – they had it all! He had thought that the canned goods piled up in the living room were more than enough, but he hadn't expected this unassuming house to store so much food. They were all for him! Find the equipment and there's a big reward!

Damn it, at least enough for me to eat for several years! He hurriedly searched around, putting aside even the thought of playing with women because, after all, what's more fun than playing after having a full stomach?

In the living room, Frankie looked at the beautiful woman sitting on the floor, itching with desire. The girl's clothes were in tatters, and her fair skin was driving him crazy.

As the lowest-ranked member of the group, he had no right to participate in looting supplies. How about taking advantage of the fact that the boss and the others are busy searching for things? Should I have a little fun first?

Frankie couldn't resist scratching his itch, his face filled with a lecherous smile. Such a good opportunity, if he didn't take advantage of it now, he'd probably miss out later!

Dirk, lying on the ground, continued to spit blood. He realized what the disgusting man in front of him wanted to do, and he trembled in an attempt to stop Frankie from defiling his sister.

Damn it! And he still wants to stop me like this?

Frankie caught a glimpse of that hand wrapped in bandages, trying to grab his pants leg.

"Bang!"

A hard shoe sole kicked Dirk in the temple, and the already weak and injured Dirk instantly fell unconscious.

Damn it, no need to bother anymore. Without bothering to deliver another blow, Frankie quickly unzipped his pants, took out his foul thing, and then swiftly crouched down and reached out towards the girl's chest.

The young girls were probably paralyzed with fear, sitting on the ground without moving. The expected softness and smoothness didn't materialize.

"Splurt." Flesh was pierced. The man, covered in nauseating pustules, couldn't stop spewing blood from his mouth. His eyes filled with fear slowly lowered to his chest, where a slender white hand had pierced through his chest as though it were stabbing tofu. He could feel his heart in that hand. "Bang." Before he could make a sound, his heart was instantly crushed.

As he neared death, he vaguely saw a pair of cold, crimson eyes.

...

"Clark, don't run so fast! We can't keep up."

Arnold looked helpless as he watched Clark sprinting all the way, disappearing from his view in the blink of an eye.

The group had just parked the car when Clark rushed down, his face filled with joy, and within a few breaths, he had entered the residential area.

Is this where Clark used to live?

Lynn curiously examined the old neighborhood in front of her and turned to ask Arnold.

"No, it seems to be Clark's sister and his brother's place."

Arnold rubbed his head, feeling deeply moved.

"I've never seen Clark so excited before. He's usually like he doesn't have any emotions."

...

"Viola!"

"Dirk!"

Under Clark's full burst of speed, he arrived at the residential building where the siblings were in just half a minute. His face was filled with joy, and he couldn't help but call out their names loudly.

"I'm back!"

With a smile on his face, he could imagine how happy Viola would be when she saw him.

No one responded.

The smile on Clark's face gradually disappeared, and his heart sank. Could it be that they had fallen asleep since it was so late?

Without thinking further, he rushed into the hallway, but out of the corner of his eye, he saw the corpse of a zombie he had killed before he left. The body had been moved, and the corpse that had been lying face-down was now facing up.

Someone has been here?

Clark suddenly felt a strong sense of unease in his heart.

"Ah! Ah! Ah!"

"Monster! Run!"

In the dimly lit living room, the floor was covered in flesh and blood, and half of a severed foot had just crossed the threshold.

A pure and innocent girl held a severed head in her hand, standing quietly in place.

Bernard's eyes were filled with fear, and now he was the only one left alive in the living room. Everything happened too quickly!

When he heard someone fall behind him, he reacted as quickly as possible.

However, in just a few seconds, the girl in tattered white dress turned into a terrifying ghost-like figure, tearing everyone into pieces.

If it weren't for the electric arc in his hand to stop her for a moment, he might have been turned into a pile of flesh.

What in the world is this monster?

Bernard's legs couldn't help but tremble, but he unexpectedly saw a hint of clarity in the "monster's" blood-red eyes that had been so bloodthirsty just moments ago.

So familiar... a voice.

Was that... Clark calling me just now?

Viola stood frozen in place, briefly regaining her senses, and then saw the bodies scattered all over the living room. Did I... kill all these people? Have I... become a monster? Two tears of blood rolled down her pale face.

Bernard gasped heavily and watched as the girl suddenly stopped and began to cry. A hint of ruthlessness flashed in his eyes.

"Electric shock!" With all his might, he generated a dazzling electric arc in his palm and directed it at Viola in an instant.

Without time to check the result, after releasing his final skill, Bernard suppressed his fear and turned to run.

"Ah! Ah! Ah!"

Viola was hit by the electric arc, and an instant later, a pungent burnt smell filled the air as she couldn't help but let out a painful scream.

The moment of clarity in her eyes disappeared, replaced by a cruel and bloodthirsty blood-red gaze.

"Bang!"

Clark had just rushed up to the third floor and collided head-on with the panicked Bernard, who was fleeing out the door.

Under the high-speed impact, Bernard's body slammed into the wall as if he had collided with a truck, and his bones felt almost shattered.

The man who escaped came down from the third floor. Clark's footsteps faltered, and his eyes were fixed on the necklace around Bernard's neck. It was the equipment they used to suppress the zombie virus, and once removed, both of them would instantly turn into zombies. Someone had invaded, no one responded, the necklace was taken, and the escaping man. In an instant, Clark realized it, and his eyes turned red.

Someone had broken into the house where the two siblings were and took the necklace!

"No!!!"

In his rage, Clark threw a punch at the limp Bernard's head.

Just as he regained consciousness from the impact, Bernard opened his eyes to see a fist full of resentment heading towards him.

"Bang!" His skull exploded, and blood mixed with brain matter splattered on the gray wall, staining it.
