Chereads / Apocalypse: Possessing the Space Ring / Chapter 5 - Awakening

Chapter 5 - Awakening

November 13, 2032, 16:22.

Three days had passed. There were only 8 minutes left until the outbreak of the apocalypse. Clark couldn't believe that he had disappeared for three days, not on FM Road!

Clark's eyes widened, and the memories of the catastrophic events of the day the apocalypse began overlapped with reality. He didn't have time to contemplate why he had been transported three days into the future after obtaining the ring, disrupting his original plans. Now, he had to rush to the neighborhood where his comrades were.

Only 2 hours and 8 minutes remained until Dirk completely transformed into a corpse! However, the city center where Clark was located was still a considerable distance from Dirk's neighborhood.

"Roar!" A zombie crawling on the ground lunged toward Clark, its hoarse screams reaching his ears, and it was about to pounce on him.

Clark acted with anger and urgency. He delivered a powerful kick, and the hard sole of his shoe instantly crushed the zombie's head into pieces.

"Ding!zombie eliminated."

"Apocalypse Player Template activated!"

"Savior Template enabled."

A light screen appeared instantly in the center of his vision.

"Apocalypse Player Information: Clark (Awakener Level 0, Player Level 0)"

"Attributes:"

"Strength: 12 (10+2)"

"Agility: 12 (10+2)"

"Constitution: 12 (10+2)"

"Willpower: 14 (12+2)"

"Equipment: Apocalypse Ring (Special)"

"Awakener Talent: Power Surge (Significantly enhances physical abilities for a short duration, leads to weakness after prolonged use)."

"Level 0: All attributes +2 (Normal human maximum for all attributes is 10; first awakening raises all attributes to their maximum value!)"

"Savior Template: Gain additional special abilities (Judgment Eye, unlocked after the first mission)."

"Mission countdown: ? ? ?" Clark was stunned, his breathing gradually becoming rapid. The player template was not supposed to appear until after the apocalypse started. He hadn't expected it to appear now. What's more, the Awakener talent he had longed for in his past life had also appeared. Did the ring trigger this change?

Recalling the peculiar sensation when he took the ring, Clark couldn't help but feel a bit uneasy. There was something trying to break out of that black crack; he suppressed these thoughts.

A special power surged into his body after the notification, and his muscles instantly tightened. He grew two inches taller.

Clark took a deep breath, his right hand muscles tensing. He threw a punch, and the reinforced door of the car instantly dented inward.

"Bang!" The car body shook violently, and the metal door, weighing several tons, left black marks as it slid sideways for half a meter.

Clark stared at the power of his punch in amazement, shocked to experience the strength of an Awakener.

Clark felt overjoyed. From now on, he had the capital to survive the apocalypse. He exerted force with his right foot, taking a step, and the asphalt cracked beneath him. He jumped effortlessly onto the car roof, which immediately dented under his weight.

Standing at a vantage point, Clark carefully observed the route ahead. Not far away, some less-fit ordinary people had gradually turned into zombies, losing their sanity and only driven by the desire to consume. With his enhanced willpower, his thoughts raced, and his mind remained clear. In just a few seconds, Clark quickly planned out his route.

LJ city Street, City Center Square, Circular Expressway, HY Community. This was the shortest route to Dirk's location. Now, LJ Avenue, where he was, was in complete chaos. Hundreds of consecutive car accidents had completely blocked the avenue.

Clark had to traverse the chaotic urban area on foot and then figure out a way to get to his destination by car. Otherwise, relying solely on his legs, it would be difficult to arrive within two hours.

"Brother, you must hang in there!" Without thinking too much, Clark bent his legs and jumped onto the roof of a Bentley. The car swayed, and the zombie that had been feasting on the driver in the driver's seat smelled the scent of a living being. It mechanically stopped eating and then quickly reached out with its right hand, grabbing a piece of flesh and rapidly lunging toward the car roof.

Clark couldn't be bothered with the alarmed zombies. He exerted force with his legs once again, as if bouncing on a trampoline. With his powerful physical abilities, he crossed the obstacles created by the car accident in just a few seconds.

Not far away, a middle-aged man looked at Clark, who had jumped from the car roof, in shock. Clark's terrifying leaping ability resembled scenes from a movie. For a moment, he forgot that dozens of zombies were chasing him madly.

"Help!" A man stumbled and tore at his vocal cords, yelling as if he had seen a lifesaving straw.

Clark raised his head slightly at the sound. The man, almost on the brink of exhaustion, looked at Clark and his face lit up with hope.

"Help... save me!"

Clark glanced at the man who was barely escaping, his brows furrowing. He didn't want to waste time saving people. There were too many zombies, and there were only six minutes left until the virus outbreak. Most of the zombies appearing now were individuals with weaker physical abilities or humans who had died in car accidents.

Once the virus officially broke out, 60% of LJ City's population would turn into zombies, and the remaining 10% would gradually transform like hidden time bombs. Currently, there were over three million people in the LJ City area alone. He wasn't a saint who could save everyone.

The two of them brushed past each other. The man's hopeful expression turned to despair, and his lips trembled. His strength was almost depleted, and his legs were weakening. If he stopped, the zombies behind him would devour him.

In despair, the man's hand, which had instinctively clutched a dropped doll he had bought for his daughter's birthday, fell to the ground.

Clark remained expressionless, and his gaze briefly passed over the doll. He had deviated slightly from his original path. Clark plowed through the zombie closest to the man. His right fist thrust forward like a sword, splattering blood and flesh.

The tremendous impact directly penetrated the zombie's chest, passing through it from front to back, leaving a clear hole. After yanking out the zombie's spine like a weapon, Clark made use of the virus-strengthened bones, which were incredibly hard. Such bones were often used as weapons during the apocalypse.

Clark swung his hand back down! The bone, pale white, sliced through the air, emitting a whistling sound. With one blow, the zombie closest to him was split in two, collapsing to the ground.

The middle-aged man, who had thought his fate was sealed, watched in amazement as Clark took action. Clark appeared far more powerful than he had ever imagined.

The man felt dry in his mouth and throat, and it seemed like he was staring at a monster. He watched as the crowds in the distance were repeatedly attacked by the charging zombies, and the city resembled an apocalypse. With his considerable experience, one thought instantly sprang to his mind: this world was finished! Follow him! Survive! He can save my daughter!

"Please!" The man suddenly knelt on the ground, his face filled with humility, and he shouted loudly toward Clark, who was charging into the horde of zombies, "Please save my daughter; she's still at school!"

Clark's expression remained cold. He had already pushed his limits by taking care of the zombies closest to him. Save someone? Who would save his own brother? Clark didn't even turn his head and, after dealing with the zombies blocking his path, he walked away.
