CHAPTER FORTY NINE
Morpheus Hunter took Karen to his lair and as he made fire, he watched the lady on his bed. Her chest was rising steadily and he knew she was sleeping and there was a high chance that she would soon wake up. He tucked her with his blanket and sat behind the fire and watched through the flames. When she wakes up, he knows she will be cold and…thirsty! That thirst that would gnaw at her neck and she would not be able to resist. Something had happened to her when he was biting her, he had not just drank her blood, he had turned her into a vampire.
"No! No! Bugs away! No!" said Karen as she fisted the sheets of the bed and moved her head from side to side. Hunter was by her side the next instant and he knew she was having a nightmare. He picked her up and cradled her on his lap as he tried to jerk her awake. He finally succeeded and immediately her eyes flew open, he was expecting her to shove him away from her but she pulled him close to herself and placed her face in the crook of her neck.
"Ralph!" said Karen in a parched voice and as tears formed in her eyes.
'Ralph? Was that her betrothed or husband? Whichever, the man is officially considered a widower' thought Hunter. Having her hug him was a treat and he placed his hands on each side of her waist as she stayed in that same position, trying to calm her heart. Her mess of hair was partly on his face and he inhaled deeply and sharply. It seemed she had heard him as she quickly removed her face from his neck and looked at his face. The next second, she launched Hunter a flying kick that had him on the floor. If he was human, he would have been picking his teeth due to the intensity of the kick.
She remembered what had happened and immediately she saw his face. His scary look, his holding her firmly and digging his long sharp nails into the part of her body he held and the worst, 'the biting!'
"You carnivorous wench!" screamed Karen as she jumped down from the bed.
'Where am I? Ms Gwen must be dead worried about me, she must be thinking something bad has happened to me?'
Though his lair was dark, she was able to see sharply and she knew it was beyond the light from the fire because when she was still in the Red Moon Pack, she did not have such luxury with her eyes, in the night.
"Why did you do…" said Karen but the next second, she held her head up in pain.
"What…what is happening to me?" asked Karen as she could feel her body react in a strange way. The veins underneath her eyes became visible and there were clear veins in her neck. She clutched her neck as she felt thirsty…a dying thirst seemed to be on her. She knelt on the ground and bowed her head as her head was in intense pains.
Hunter picked himself from the ground and he walked closer to Karen. She was in intense pain, such she had never felt before. She knew what pain was while she was in the dungeon but what she was going through could not be explained by mere words. It was like two entities were trying to take possession of her body at the same time and there was thirst she was feeling.
Hunter squatted by her side and when Karen felt the presence of someone else by her side, she raised her head up. As she raised her head, her senses that were normally sharpened as a werewolf, though she had no wolf, were more keen.
She could hear the movement of a spider as it made its web, at a very far end in the room. She could perceive the scent coming from Hunter. It was a spicy sandalwood scent.and then her eyes zeroed in on Hunter's neck and was super interested in the pulsing of a particular vein.
Hunter noticed her and said, "you would need to quench that thirst lady. We need to go outside and hunt, so you would stop looking at my neck so fascinatingly. My blood would taste bad to you though, you are just like me now!" said Hunter and he stood up, expecting Karen to follow him like a lovesick puppy but she did not.
"You would die if you did not have some blood. The rules are simple, you take no blood, you starve to your death. Now, get your ass up, let's get you filled!"
At this Karen stood up and Hunter smiled, nothing could beat that ravenous parchedness…nothing, ever! He turned his back on her to walk to the entrance but Karen had other plans. With her unmastered speed, she jumped on his back and wrapped an arm from behind, in a choke hold. Hunter got a hold of her elbow and flipped her forward, slamming the ground hard. She had gripped his neck so hard, he thought it was the brain she had a grip on because he could not think…she was definitely strong!
'Feisty!'
"I advise you to stop these sneaky attacks lady. You could die anytime soon" said Hunter as he watched Karen writhe on the ground in pain.
"Then it is only right that you die with me!" said Karen as she stood up and took a sparring position.
"You don't want to do this!" said Hunter as he saw her release and flex her phalanges in preparation for the fight.
"Or you don't want to get hurt, you nincompoop!" said Karen and she threw a punch at Hunter but he held the hand and tried to push her to the wall with it but she threw another punch to his left cheek and this one landed successfully. She tried another but he held it also and twirled Karen till her back was facing him and he used her hands he was still holding to hold her.
"What do you think you are doing, you cannibal" said Karen and Hunter chuckled.
"I do not eat flesh young lady. Now that reminds me, I do not know your name" said Hunter into Karen's ear.
"But I know yours" said Karen
"Oh really! What is it then?" asked Hunter, with an intrigued tone.
"Idiot nincompoop!"
