Chapter 1 - One last song

(Chapter 1)

"One more song.."

She looked up at him, her voice barely above a whisper. Her eyes dark, sad and mysterious. "What?" Heath rose a brow at the woman. "Let me play one last song." The woman was as cool as ice, unmoving from the piano she sat in front of. "There is no one else here."

"There has been no one here for hours. I just want to play one last song." Her eyes, obsidian in color bore into heaths own. Silently pleading with the man. "Please..allow me this one mercy." Heath narrowed his eyes, his finger hovering over the trigger. "Is it so wrong to allow one artist to enjoy their art form one last time?"

Heath sighed softly and lowered his gun, sinking into the seat behind him. "Very well then. Play to your hearts content." He nodded his head, allowing her to start when she was ready. "Thank you." She whispered as her eyes fell to the keys and away from heaths intimidating red ones.

Ivy's fingers played skillfully, playing für Elise for the last time. They glided across keys she knew far too well. Heath watched her, intrigued in how she played. So precise, so well executed. It was as if she'd been playing all her life. Maybe she had been, Heath didn't know. It wasn't his place too.

He simply did what he was payed to do. Even if it was wrong, in fact he found he enjoyed doing things more when he wasn't supposed to. Pulling himself out of his thoughts he watched as the woman's fingers slowed. Her song ending. Standing from his chair he walked towards the stage, slow and loud taps from his boots echoing as he walked through the silent opera hall.

He made his way up the stares, his eyes never once leaving the mysterious woman. He didn't know her name, he didn't know why he was being paid so much to end her life. But he did know that she was a wonderful player, her talent like a gift from god himself he thought. Or maybe a deal with the devil? He'd heard that making deals with the devil would grant the summoner whatever they wanted, maybe she wanted to be an amazing musician. He couldn't help but wonder, even if it wasn't his place to.

Stopping behind the woman he held the gun to her head. She was still, waiting for the moment the bullet would fly through her skull. The minute her life would end officially. It had been over the minute she started playing in opera halls anyway. Ivy wasn't sure she had anything left to live for.

"You can do it now."

She told him. She didn't know the man's name or why he wanted her dead. But she couldn't stop him, besides he was simply helping her finally make a decision she's needed to make for years.

Heath took a deep breath. Killing had never been this hard before. All he had to do was pull the trigger. So why was that hard now? Why did he feel guilty? He ignored the feeling.

"You play beautifully."

He tells her. He felt like he needed to say something before ending her life.

"Thank you."

Heath nodded and pulled the trigger.

Bang.

Ivy slumped her upper body falling against piano as blood spilled over the keys. Her breathing slowed to a stop and the light fled from her eyes.

Heath sighed and stepped back, turning away he walked off. Pulling out his cellphone he texts his client, telling them he'd fulfilled his task.
