In this Broken and 'depressing world', as a girl named Olivia would put this, she is a Journalist who wants to grow more, while also being a photographer on the side.
She is currently 20 years old, originally going to college for a couple of years before she dropped out due to her reasons.
She had just gotten home from yet another botched interview for a hopeful story to write, it seemed whatever she tried, nothing ever caught anyones attention.
One she got home she sighed as she goes to put the keys into her door, before looking at a wrapped up package right next to one of the chairs on her porch. She seemed skeptical at first as she didn't remember ordering anything, she did have one friend though, and her name was sophia, she had worked in an antique shop, and often found old stuff to give to Olivia
She doesn't bother to open it right away, but she does pick it up, before unlocking her door and entering her house, and as always it was slightly messy.
Olivia lived in an average sized house, but she used the extra bedroom for some of her research, while transporting all of it downstairs whenever she got the chance, though forgetting to clean up she had papers everywhere in the living room, cups and food boxes were also scattered on the table and some on the floor.
"Something tells me, today is going to be another busy day"
Olivia sighed to herself as she sits on her couch, throwing the box on the other end, deciding to get to it later, then turning towards the papers on her coffee table, various newspapers were found along with pictures as well, and written journal logs from various people she had interviewed
"Its always the same stories, but why is none of this actually story worthy"
Olivia pinches the bridge of her nose as she stands up and walks over to her kitchen, deciding to get some food in her stomach before doing more hours of research of more pointless stories
It was always the same boring stuff, mostly random things happening in abandoned buildings, people and their ghost stories, but Olivia knew, as a horror fan herself, that people always loved to pretend ghosts lived in their city, to try and scare the already paranoid people
That was something Olivia was curious about though, what were the people so paranoid about, maybe they were schizophrenic or dealt with PTSD, it was highly possible, and she wasn't about to start digging into peoples personal lives if they didn't want to share their story
Olivia heats up some left over chicken in the microwave, and watches it as it slowly sizzles while heating up, this is how most of her days went, she went out for various trips, like food runs or interviews she may have gotten from people
She didn't like being outside so much, she was scared and had just as much trauma as some others, loosing her brother and mother, not knowing how the both of them passed, but she refused to believe it was just some freak accident, like the police had said it was, it wasn't like her mother to be so reckless, especially when her little brother was with her
Olivia would get to talk to her father from time to time, though he moved out of the country for a job, but he was always so positive, and helped bring a smile to Olivia's face, helping her forget sometimes that the world could be so cruel
Olivia is suddenly taken out of her thoughts when beeping from the microwave was heard, she takes out her chicken and grabs a coke from the fridge, yet again walking over to the piles of papers scattered on her living room table for work
Though there was this itch to know what was inside of that box she received made her curious, she then sets her food down on the table and makes her way to the box and grabbing it, while also grabbing her box cutter that she always kept with her, before she started to open the package
Though it didnt seem like there was much in there for her, except two VHS tapes, there was one that dated back in the 1980s and 1990s almost early 2000s
Olivia had always been a fan of VHS tapes, especially horror related tapes, she felt that they made horror actually scary, and had their own level of horror
She looked at the VHS tapes and saw names on them, one of them labeled, "the noises from underground" and the other named "the birthday party"
"These are cool, ill definitely have to watch these, i've been meaning to have another movie night at some point, but....i've never heard of movies like these"
She said in a confused tone, seeing that it was from her friend sophia, she also discovers a note that read "found these in the back, enjoy :)"
Olivia smiled from this, her friend always knew she was a sucker for VHS Tapes.
Olivia then shook her head and decided to look the tapes up, seeing if she found any confirmation that these were movies
So she looked up both of them, the only things she saw in common when she looked them both up was to watch them at their own risk
Which was a natural warning for anything horror related
Though looking up the second tape have a link labeled
"World wide phenomenon"
She found it interested but decided she would just look at it later
It was probably just another horror concept someone had made up, right?
Olivia then decided to give her friend a shout since she hadn't met up with her in a while, knowing that she would be up at this time
Olivia pulled out her phone and searched for Sophia's contact, the phone rang a couple of times, before the phone was answered with a simple and excited hello from Sophia
Olivia:"Hey sophia, its been a while huh?"
a feint chuckle could be heard from the other end of the phone
Sophia:"It sure has, how have you been lately, any good stories lately?"
Olivia sighed, there was visible annoyance that could be recognized from anyone
Olivia:"things have been interesting, and you know id tell you when i did get some interesting stories, its just the same old stuff everytime, by the way thanks for the VHS tapes you sent me, though ive never heard of these movies before, i even tried to search them up and no movies came up, just some warning and a weird link"
A pause comes from the other end, as Sophia doesn't respond
Sophia:"Well.....im not sure what they are exactly, i was cleaning the storage in the back again and i found those tapes, if they aren't movies, maybe they're videos of some sort, maybe you can get a good story from them....i have to go for now, but do text me if you find something interesting"
Olivia lets out a hum as she said a goodbye to Sophia, as she ends the call, looking at both VHS tapes again, sophia was right, maybe she could finally get a story from these, and something that could help her grow as a journalist
Olivia gets up and walks over to her TV where she also had a VHS player which she had salvaged from someone
She looked at both of the tapes and decided to watch the one labeled "the Noises from Underground" first, it did seem interesting
Olivia walked back to her couch after putting in the tape, and turned up her volume,
The video didn't seem to bad at first
The tape showed two farmers doing daily routines on their farm, nothing going wrong until the middle of the tape, during their duties varies extra steps or noises could be heard, though the farmers wrote it off as some of their animals, Olivia also wrote this off not thinking much of it
Though thats when they kept happening, the farmer holding the camera tells the other to come to them quickly, as the one with the camera lays down and presses their ear and the camera to the ground, hoping to catch something
It was silent for a moment before the sounds of rushing footsteps could be heard, with growling too, though not of any animal they knew, and if it was, how was it underground? It didn't make sense to them
This interested Olivia, as she also noticed a few glitches on the screen as the noises were heard, though VHS tapes were known to not be of high quality like the phones and cameras they had today, but even this seemed off to her
She took note of this, along with the farmers claims of the noises they heard from below the ground, she couldn't decipher what is was though, the footsteps could be clearly heard so it couldn't be some kind of rat nor rabbit, and what kind of animals growl underground like that?
She knew farmers often get various coyotes from time to time, but even she knew the growl wasn't one of a coyotes
The growls seemed to be deep and slightly distorted when she played the tapes back, writing down this
information as well
Though the tape hadn't ended yet like she thought, the grass seemed to be 'soft' in that area and more, which was confusing, usually grass was strong and not easy to even press through
In the tape the male was easily able to push a bit of the grass as it caved in a bit, as if there was nothing underneath, which was another scary thing to think of
The tape then cuts to black with a couple more glitches
She knew shed definitely start writing a story based on this tape first before getting to the other one, knowing she finally got something interesting to write, she texts sophia
"Found something strange and interesting, i might get something from this"
