Chapter 121 - Chapter 121: Forbidden Territory

Tom initially intended to stow the scroll directly into his pocket, but Slytherin insisted he open it first.

Upon unraveling the scroll, Tom found Latin inscriptions detailing the "Time Turner Manufacturing Method."

Tom felt a bit disappointed, not because Time Turners weren't tempting, but because the Ministry of Magic had a whole cabinet of them! He could even apply for one next semester or borrow Hermione's.

"What's wrong?" Slytherin asked.

"It's still good. After all, the Time Turner's manufacturing method has been lost. However, the Ministry of Magic—that is, the Wizard Council—has a whole stockpile, so I'm not particularly keen on making one," Tom explained.

"How is that possible?" The Slytherin puppet seemed agitated. "My original self spent a lifetime without creating one. How could those useless folks at the Wizard Council have a cabinet full of them?"

Tom: ?

So, he explained the Ministry's Time Turners and Slytherin's puppet to each other.

"Calling those things Time Turners when they can only stably go back five hours is an insult!" Slytherin scoffed upon hearing that the Ministry's Time Turners were potentially dangerous for longer time retractions. "These so-called Time Turners are probably defective products modified from Slytherin's leftovers!"

Tom then understood that the scroll given by the puppet contained the complete method for creating a Time Turner—the only one of its kind in the magical world.

"If there's nothing else, you can leave," the puppet didn't want to continue the conversation and was ready to send Tom away.

"One more question. Is Merlin your student?"

"Absurd! How could Merlin be my student? Among my students, there was a fool named Mryddin."

Seeing Slytherin's impatience, Tom quickly left the secret room. He got his answer from Slytherin himself: Merlin wasn't Slytherin's student. The rumor about Merlin being a student of Slytherin was debunked.

The name Mryddin had a strong Welsh flavor, somewhat similar to Merlin. Perhaps parents who admired Merlin named their child Mryddin—similar to how some parents might name their child Liu Bei.

Tom descended the stairs without trials this time, feeling like he was walking down ordinary stairs. He arrived at the silver door, which, upon his approach, exerted a force that pulled him inside and then expelled him.

In that instant,

"So, this place is recognized as Slytherin's Chamber." Tom stared at the silver door thoughtfully. When he entered the chamber earlier, the Dust World Wandering task didn't trigger. It seemed the trigger point for the chamber was automatically placed behind this door.

This was Tom's recent gain.

Tom looked around and found Hermione sitting against the wall, hugging her knees, appearing half-asleep. However, as soon as she heard the noise, she lifted her head and looked towards the door.

"Thank goodness! You finally came out." Hermione, relieved that Tom was safe, couldn't help but sigh. "Can you not take such risks next time? Waiting is incredibly agonizing!"

"No more next time," Tom reached out and helped Hermione up, who had been squatting for too long and had numb legs. "How long was I inside?"

"Several hours, I can't remember exactly. So, how was it? What did you get?"

Tom handed Slytherin's scroll directly to Hermione.

"There's a puppet and a trial left by Slytherin inside. I passed the trial and obtained this scroll."

Hearing Tom's words, Hermione's hand paused. "In that case, I won't read it. After all, it's what you earned through the risk."

Tom casually waved his hand. "Sharing is caring. Your role in this adventure was crucial, like a safety net. I wouldn't dare to venture in without you behind me."

Tom's words made Hermione smile shyly. "I didn't really do much. I just daydreamed outside."

"Alright, no need to be polite between us. Let's open it quickly. Maybe I'll need your help in the future!"

So, Hermione opened the scroll, and together with Tom, they read the method of making the Time Turner. However, the scroll didn't immediately dive into the Time Turner's manufacturing process; instead, it repeatedly emphasized the need for caution when dealing with time. It dedicated considerable space to listing examples of those who tampered with time and met unfortunate ends.

"Time is a forbidden realm! Tread carefully when entering," was a sentence at the end of the opening, followed by the main content.

"To make a Time Turner, you need Sands of Time and a sacred substance from the 'Otherworld' Castle," Hermione read. "Otherworld Castle? The term sounds familiar, but what is Sands of Time? Oh, it's mentioned below; we might have to make a trip to Egypt. Sands of Time is a specialty found in the Temple of Thoth in Egypt."

"As for what the Otherworld Castle is, we'll check that later." After skimming through, Hermione carefully rolled up the scroll.

This was also why Tom was willing to share the scroll with Hermione. Setting aside any sentiment, her proactive nature made her an excellent assistant.

But Tom didn't rush to leave. He remembered he had a silver snake sculpture.

He stuck the sculpture on the opposite room's door. The sculpture quickly melted into it, and when it was expelled, the snake's eyes had turned red.

Tom stared at the snake eyes, and a passage of text flowed into his mind.

The skill requires consuming a piece of serpent brainstone to use.]

Tom glanced at the completely dead body of the snake creature, which could be put to good use. He went over to the creature, suppressing his discomfort, and reached into its brain for a while. As expected, he found a cherry-sized bead.

Looking at the various marks on the bead, Tom didn't immediately use it. Only after Hermione used some purified water and cleaned it did he muster the courage to put this thing in his mouth—after being cleaned, the brainstone was quite beautiful, like an agate bead.

Tom swallowed the serpent brainstone whole, feeling nothing special, just a cool sensation sliding down his throat, as if he had truly swallowed a stone.

He looked at Hermione. "Let's go. It's about time. We should head back to our dormitory."

"Your eyes!" Hermione suddenly exclaimed. Tom also felt a certain foreign sensation in his right eye. He couldn't help but cover his eyes.
