Mr. Ollivander stared at the light for a long time, then exhaled, "Not bad, these runes of yours are already qualified."

Mr. Ollivander's "qualified" meant that they could be carved onto a wand. He stood up, vacated his seat, and gestured for Tom to sit at his workbench.

"Come on, you can start making your first wand in your life." Mr. Ollivander showed a kind smile, like an old farmer seeing beautiful fruits grow on his trees. At the same time, he brought a large box over, filled with various woods he had collected. Tom even saw ebony and bamboo inside.

"Feel free to choose, no need to be polite." Mr. Ollivander was quite generous. The first wand of a wandmaker apprentice couldn't be subpar, even though he knew that the crafting level of a novice's first wand would likely be less than perfect, it couldn't be compromised.

Tom thought for a moment and picked up a piece of wood. Instead of choosing bamboo or something exotic like goldenheart wood, he chose ebony.

Although ebony wood had a dark color, its dense texture made it excellent for carving. Plus, the weight felt good in the hand, giving a fantastic texture. Tom liked materials with high density.

Each type of wood had been roughly trimmed by Mr. Ollivander, with the longest not exceeding twenty inches. Tom took this piece of ebony, trimmed it a bit, cutting it to fifteen inches, and then split it in half. The wood was chosen, and the next step was to choose the wand core.

Ignoring the box of wand cores Mr. Ollivander provided, Tom took out a bright blue feather.

Mr. Ollivander was slightly surprised, "Is this a bird-snake feather?" He gently took it from Tom's hand, looked at it carefully for a while, and said, "It's actually a feather from a bird-snake's wing..." Mr. Ollivander looked at Tom, but he didn't inquire about the feather's source. "Child, you must remember, one basic principle for wandmakers is to avoid unnecessary harm—materials like a dragon heartstring are usually obtained from commercially raised dragons."

Tom had "borrowed" this bird-snake feather from his pet, Travieso. Tom named the bird-snake Travieso, which came from Spanish, meaning mischievous. It matched well with the playful nature of the bird-snake baby.

Tom carefully embedded the feather into the wand and then began carving runes inside the wand. He didn't make any modifications—basic runes were carefully summarized by generations of wandmakers, like basic formulas, challenging to modify. Tom wouldn't make unnecessary changes. Just like calculating potential energy, it was natural to use the formula E=mgH; Tom wouldn't try to be clever and do unnecessary embellishments.

A total of seven runes, and Tom carved quite slowly, taking an hour and a half to finish. In the last step, Mr. Ollivander took out a long strip of paper and pasted it on the wand, taking it off after a minute.

"According to the regulations of the Ministry of Magic, all wands must have a magical trace." After adding the magical trace, Tom joined the two pieces of wood together, and a rough wand was completed.

The remaining work included polishing, waxing, adding a base, and other finishing touches.

When Tom finished the last step, a simple wand lay quietly on the workbench, without any decoration. At that moment, the system also popped up.

Tom picked up the wand, pointed it at the knife on the table, and the knife instantly enlarged several times. Moving the wand away, the knife returned to its original size.

"Bird-snake feather as the wand core, the wand tends to favor Transfiguration." Mr. Ollivander commented. He took the wand from Tom and examined it carefully, "This wand is already qualified. You can be called a wandmaker apprentice."

He congratulated Tom. According to the normal process, after this step, a wandmaker would teach his apprentices some advanced runes. Still, since Tom was just a part-time apprentice and didn't even formally apprentice, the relationship wasn't enough for Mr. Ollivander to hand over the runes that had been passed down in his family for thousands of years. He knew that there would be an heir in the family.

What he taught Tom before was axioms, knowledge that any wandmaker in the world knew. Teaching him the more advanced runes was unnecessary.

However, Tom did show talent. After thinking for a moment, Mr. Ollivander handed Tom a small booklet.

"I don't have much more to teach you. These are some runes I've obtained from exchanges around the world over the years, including some rarely used runes by wandmakers. They are all in there; you can ponder over them yourself, hoping you gain something."

Tom thanked Mr. Ollivander, took the booklet, and went to study it on the side. Mr. Ollivander took out the wand inventory book that Tom had organized before and began to look through it slowly.

Looking at the rune booklet for a while, Tom found that the runes on it were completely incompatible with the standard rune set. Many runes meant "expansion," "enhancement," "life drain," and so on. It made sense; wandmakers pursued stability, guidance, concentration, and other mild, neutral runes that aligned with their philosophy.

But Tom thought of other possibilities. Since he was carving runes on magical materials to make the flowing magic change, could he not use various woods and fix the runes on other carriers?

So he asked Mr. Ollivander this question. Mr. Ollivander was surprised for a moment, then burst into laughter.

"You're thinking exactly like I did when I was young! I also had such whimsical thoughts. To be honest, someone who can come up with this idea should be an alchemist rather than a wandmaker."
