Chapter 42 - Chapter 42: Opening the First Character UP Pool

"Beep, beep, beep!"

The incessant sound of notifications from the system was ringing, but Tom had no energy to look at it. His shoulder was in excruciating pain, and he would soon have to face the professors who were rushing to the scene. His mind raced as he thought about his explanation, but after a while, he couldn't come up with a good plan, so he decided to lie low.

Soon, Professors McGonagall and Snape arrived at the scene under Hermione's guidance.

"Oh my goodness!" Professor McGonagall, the first to arrive at the scene, exclaimed, and it was no wonder she was so shocked. The scene was extremely gruesome—Tom and the giant creature had fought in a corridor on the third floor, and the dead creature lay near the stairs at one end of the corridor. Bloodstains covered the area from the ceiling to the floor, and there was blood everywhere, even at the far end of the corridor. Amidst this gruesome scene, there was a young wizard: Tom was sitting on the platform of the third-floor staircase, covered in the foul-smelling blood of the giant creature.

The three newcomers could hardly believe their eyes. Hermione, of course, knew what had happened; it was evident that Tom had transformed into a three-headed dog and then fought and killed the giant creature.

Snape quickly regained his composure. He walked up to the body of the giant creature and carefully examined the wound. He seemed to be unaffected by the creature's smell, but Tom still had the lingering odor in his mouth, and Snape couldn't help but vomit, wishing he could get rid of the taste and smell.

Seeing Snape's reaction, Professor McGonagall hurriedly held him and patted his back, soothing him, "It's alright, it's all over now, don't worry—Reparo!"

At this moment, Professor McGonagall was remarkably gentle and patient, completely different from her usual stern demeanor. She noticed the wound on Tom's shoulder and promptly used a healing spell to alleviate his pain.

Tom vomited for a while, and the acidic taste finally replaced the stench and the smell of blood. He gradually calmed down and sat on the steps, catching his breath.

"Miss Granger, that wound on the giant creature's neck appears to have been caused by a bite from some sort of beast," Snape said coldly after examining the creature's body, showing no sign of having detected Tom's true identity.

"Beast..." Professor McGonagall paused for a moment, and then it dawned on her. There was indeed a magical creature in the castle capable of killing a giant creature with a single bite.

"It seems that there was not only a giant creature wandering around the school today," Snape continued, his expression unchanged. He turned his gaze to Tom and said, "Mr. Riddle, I need you to explain what just happened here."

"I drank a cup of milk tea from Miss Pettier at lunchtime today. She gave it to me as a token of gratitude for helping her during our last Flying lesson..."

"Get to the point," Snape interrupted Tom impatiently.

"Alright, Professor. I had diarrhea after drinking the milk tea, so I went to the infirmary. After leaving the infirmary, I ran into Hermione, who told me there was a giant creature in the castle. We were on our way back to the common room when the creature appeared. It was fast, so I told Hermione to go ahead, and I stayed behind to hold it off..."

"How could you!" Professor McGonagall's face darkened. "Don't you know how dangerous giant creatures are? The only reason you're not the creature's dinner right now is because you got lucky!"

After scolding Tom, she turned to Hermione. "Miss Granger, I thought you were supposed to stay in the common room."

"Yes, Professor, theoretically, I should..."

"That's enough. Both of you need to spend some time in detention to gain a clearer understanding of the dangers posed by these magical creatures. Hagrid will arrange your detention."

"Oh, alright," Hagrid responded, somewhat absentmindedly.

But Dumbledore had more to say. "Miss Granger, while your actions were against the rules, I see the courage of a Gryffindor in you and the friendship between you and Mr. Riddle. I believe this deserves recognition. I will award Ravenclaw House 20 points."

Hermione, who had been despairing about being placed in detention, suddenly perked up at the news.

"Now, let's put an end to this incident for the evening. Miss Granger, you can return to your common room. We've moved the dinner to there, so I hope you won't miss your meal. Mr. Riddle, would you mind joining me in my office? I apologize for what you've been through, so please allow me to offer you a cup of tea."

Tom's face was somewhat stiff, but he couldn't refuse, so he followed Dumbledore to his office. He decided to take a risk while following Dumbledore. He opened his system interface and discreetly observed Dumbledore, watching for any signs that he might have detected the presence of the system.

However, when he activated the system, Dumbledore didn't seem to notice anything unusual. But a message caught his attention: "System update complete, UP Pool unlocked?"

Tom suddenly became alert.
