Sitting back in his office, Peter Brown carefully reflected on today's meeting and gained some understanding of the terms exchanged with the leaders. He now realized that his previous thoughts were somewhat naïve and acknowledged that he had learned a lot.
As for not fully siding with Henry Carter today, Peter didn't care too much about it. Judging from Carter's unwillingness to even give up a Deputy Minister position, it was clear that the man had never considered Peter's interest. Therefore, it was important to build his own support base as much as possible.
Now it seemed his support truly mattered.
Of course, Peter had also thought about the possibility of the other party joining forces against him, but he was not afraid. Even if they did join hands, what would that entail other than cutting down his people? If it came to that point, he wouldn't need to resist anyway. He would simply say nothing and let them fight among themselves again.
