Remaining passive and taking hits was not an option, as the attackers had access to myriad powerful weapons. These weapons were formidable, but they could not match the speed and agility of evasive warships, hence their effectiveness on the battlefield was limited.
If a battleship simply stayed still, it would be less effective than a fixed turret. As it stood, these ships were completely immobilized, even adjusting their orientation was impossible. If their engines were to be started, they would be instantly damaged. All of the flight and jump engines were shut down as a result.
