This door wasn't just something anyone could open casually, and the committee members didn't have the privilege to do so typically. When they came by, someone naturally would open the entire door for them, leading to the highest platform of the entire council chamber. During meetings, all committee members would enter through this door, but upon entering, they would walk to their respective positions on either side.
Walking straight ahead was reserved for the positions of the few chairpersons of the Galactic Federation's highest committee. In theory, these were the supreme holders of power within the Federation, and every chairperson, upon assumption of office, would push open this door by hand to symbolize their acceptance of this authority, while ordinarily, specialized guards would open this grand door.
