"No... No." Even Bonnie herself was momentarily at a loss for words. Although foreigners may not be familiar with the phrase "there's something queer in the wind," the meaning was certainly clear. This was too abnormal; conventional negotiations involved driving the price lower, yet here was Mr. Lewis simply increasing it.
"Mr. Lewis, what's going on?" asked David Lancaster, albeit somewhat nonplussed. Given his position and status, it seemed inappropriate to be asking this question. The seller volunteering to bump up the price – was such a thing even possible in this world? But for some reason, David felt that his question was justified.
