Having a child on a mission was not something that had never happened before, even for lower-level vampires. It was a rare sight and almost impossible, as missions like this were always dangerous, with lives at stake, not to mention a human child who could be injured so easily.
Azrael stepped forward and placed a hand on Vespera's shoulder. "We should move on," he said softly. "We need to get Kia somewhere safe." Vespera nodded and began leading the way, still holding Kia's hand.
As they walked ahead, Azrael slowed down and took the opportunity to study the child more closely. He looked to be no older than six years old, with short brown hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a tattered shirt and pants, both covered in dirt and blood. One shoe was worn out with holes, and the other was missing. Azrael watched as the little boy warmed up to Vespera, relaxing into her embrace as she held him close.
