His words caused a sting in Aurora's chest, and she found herself holding her purse tightly. Adrian's perspective clashed with her own, leaving her conflicted. She took a moment to compose herself, silently questioning whether she should challenge his viewpoint or let it slide.

The baker sighed, his gaze dropping to the jar of coins in his hands. "I know, young man, but it's hard not to feel responsible. She was just a child, caught up in something much bigger than any of us."

Turning back to the baker, Aurora gently placed the silver coin inside the donation jar. The sound of the coin meeting others in the jar echoed in the quiet bakery with a soft click.

"There you go," she said, her gaze lingering on the jar. "For Lily and all the children who need it."

The baker's eyes glistened with gratitude. "Thank you," he expressed.
