Aurora's shoulders dropped, and she sighed in frustration, using her hand to run through her hair. She felt stupid and disheartened. A part of her really believed Azrael would come. She had gotten so used to his presence that even when upset and shutting herself off from everyone, she could still feel him silently watching over her.
His presence was comforting and familiar. But now, the empty space beside her was a stark reminder of his absence. She took a deep breath, willing herself to let go of the disappointment. It was silly to keep thinking about him.
She turned away from the window, ready to put the whole thing behind her and collapsed on her bed. Instead of falling asleep as she intended, she ended up twisting and turning. "I care about you, Aurora," his words echoed in her head like an echo.
