Chapter 23 - 23

In the pitch-black mountains, a middle-aged monk and a young novice seemed to sense A-Lai's plight and silently prayed in their hearts,"Buddha bless him, let him hold on until dawn!" Their footsteps were as swift as the most agile leopards, swiftly weaving through the forest, heading straight for the school. Suddenly, the middle-aged monk sensed something unusual ahead. He signaled to the young novice, and they quickly changed direction, running at full speed.

Unbeknownst to anyone, Lord Gong had already crept up behind Elder Gongsun. The old man was paralyzed, unable to even turn his neck. With a mocking smile, Lord Gong taunted,"What's the matter? Haven't you always wanted to catch me? Here I am, why aren't you moving?"

"Do you know the funniest joke I heard yesterday? Why did the old man fall in the well? Because he couldn't see that well!"

Lord Gong's twisted humor made her laugh uproariously, her body shaking like a flower in the wind. But the next moment, Elder Gongsun struck her down with a single finger, piercing a bloody hole through her abdomen. The beautiful enchantress trembled, shivering like a frightened animal, struggling to stand. Elder Gongsun turned, his movements still stiff but far from as incapacitated as he had pretended.

"You tricked me?!" Lord Gong roared in fury.

Gongsun sneered,"You demoness, you're used to deceiving people and playing with their hearts. You say one thing and do another. Why is it okay for you to do it, but not for others?"

Just then, the two monks arrived, their steps as nimble as leopards in the forest.

"Help! Over here, save me!" Lord Gong now screamed like a helpless damsel pursued by a maniac, while Elder Gongsun played the part perfectly.

"Hmph, you have help, but it's too late!" Elder Gongsun sneered, stepping towards Lord Gong, his fingers radiating a formidable energy. The wounded woman rolled on the ground, her clothing transforming into peasant garb, her makeup wiped away to reveal a plain face. She seemingly tried to dodge in panic but ended up behind the two monks.

The elder monk, confused, blocked Elder Gongsun."Who are you?" But Gongsun did not respond, launching a fierce attack instead. The middle-aged monk and the young novice joined forces to fend off his assault. The older monk's skills were deep and his movements steady and powerful; the young novice was not as skilled but was quick and agile. Together, they were a perfect match, successfully halting Gongsun's onslaught. However, they didn't notice that the enchantress in red had slipped away.

Repeated attacks revealed a screaming girl to the monster. It tried to squeeze its massive body through the gap, and later she swore she saw it grin menacingly. Amidst the dust and rubble, it locked eyes on its prey, frantically clawing to fit more of its body through, preparing for a fatal strike. The few remaining sturdy pine pillars creaked under the strain of the giant centipede's force.

The monster let out a low growl, like a demon howling from hell. With the roar came a wave of foul-smelling slime, suffocating anyone nearby. The giant creature seemed even larger in the night, its furious roars planting a seed of inescapable despair in everyone's heart. A-Lai's eyes widened as he wiped the slime from his face, leaving a bloody footprint with each step as blood seeped into the wooden floor.

A-Lai gripped his spear, took a deep breath, and with determined eyes, unleashed"Meteor Strike." This time, his movements were more stable than ever. The strike mimicked the power of a meteor, hitting the centipede's many compound eyes with immense force. The damaged spear didn't just slam down but vibrated hundreds of times, like countless meteor fragments crashing down.

A flicker of fear crossed the monster's eyes; its instincts told it that the prey before it was no longer just an easy meal. It struggled, but the force was like a mountain, unyieldingly crushing its fragile eyes into a pulp, leaving only a few weakly glowing red eyes.

A-Lai's spirit was invigorated,"Giant centipede, let's see how you fight without your eyes!"

The centipede's wail echoed through the classroom as it went completely berserk, charging headfirst into the wooden pillars like an out-of-control sledgehammer, smashing everything in its path. A-Lai narrowly avoided the massive impact by using the remaining wooden pillars. The centipede let out a roar, followed by a bone-grinding screech, and said angrily,"You really are an annoying little bug! Do you feel weak and disoriented? You've been poisoned by my venom. Without me, you won't get the antidote. Just lie down and let me swallow you whole for a quick death!"

A-Lai's heart skipped a beat. Ever since the centipede appeared, a foul stench had filled the room. Over time, the stench grew stronger, and without realizing it, A-Lai had inhaled a large amount of toxic gas during the high-speed movements. His actions were now becoming sluggish.

After one particularly strong impact, the centipede's head cracked a 30-centimeter-thick pine pillar. The next strike followed swiftly, and with a loud crack, the pillar broke, causing the heavy roof to tilt and collapse. Several pieces of the ceiling crashed down, one after another, heading straight for the unconscious girl. The girl, not as strong as A-Lai, was already drowsy from the invasion of the poisonous mist.

Fortunately, the falling debris stopped, with one remaining pine pillar still supporting the roof. The intense scene made even Caron, the livestream hunter, tense up.

"Whoa, if those boards keep falling, they're gonna crush that girl! What on earth is that centipede doing? Has it lost its mind? Is it trying to knock down all the pillars and bring the whole place down?

Oh, A-Lai's getting up from the ashes. Oh, he's using his last bit of strength to launch a savage charge. It's hilarious, a frail boy charging at a giant beast, like an egg smashing against a rock! Oh, in the moment of the charge, he thrusts his weapon into the centipede's body. Oh, he's been thrown into the air, haha, now that's a real savage charge!

It seems he's not only poisoned but also severely injured internally. The boy's situation is very precarious now; if the fight continues, he'll either succumb to the poison or be killed by the centipede. If it were me, I'd take the chance to run away. Does he still plan to save the girl's life while he has the strength? Does he want to escape with her? The centipede noticed his intentions and stopped trying to remove the boy's weapon. The centipede is charging at them, aiming to cut the boy and girl in half with its pincers!"

Covered in blood, A-Lai felt dizzy and exhausted. He struggled to reach the girl's side. His spear was long gone. He grasped her pale hand, feeling its softness and warmth. The stench from behind overwhelmed him, but he didn't bother to turn. He just wanted to hold her hand, feeling her heartbeat. Coldness enveloped A-Lai, but a sliver of warmth and comfort remained in his heart. For the first time, he felt both fear and courage simultaneously.

All the viewers stared wide-eyed at their screens, anxiously awaiting the next bloody scene.
