Maybe the little white cat wanted to play a prank on the two wizards.
Perhaps the little white cat was just curious when it saw the two young wizards, so it came over to say hello. There are numerous animals in the University that admire wizards and it's not uncommon to find wild birds perch on a wizard's shoulder for food. However, it was clear that a certain over-anxious young wizard had massively overreacted to the little white cat's 'greeting', managing to throw out an entire talisman paper at it.
Luckily, those talismans were of poor quality and had limited power.
Luckily, the little white cat was agile and managed to dodge the effect range of the talisman.
