Chapter 16 - Parallel

Before his incredulous eyes, the hero begins to tear off his skin with his delicate hands, until the ground is covered in rivers of blood that stain the hopes of our incredulous candidate for viceroy. The hero's features start to distort, giving way to the face of Max, who, in fury, grabs the viceroy by the neck while his beloved son's eyes portray an expression of hatred that would marvel Max's most lucid and sick dreams.

Suddenly, Max believes it is time to fulfill his revenge, but before that, he asks Julian what he should do with his father. Julian refuses to cooperate with Max, but he hasn't forgiven his father's life either. Max begins to rip off the viceroy's head with all the fury he can muster. In his eyes, there is only the pain of losing his wife; there is no humanity left in Max.

Max completes his revenge and starts drinking the viceroy's blood. Julian mourns his father's death, tears emerging from the depths of his soul. Max cannot understand why Julian cries for the death of a tyrant and a fool like him. Max, in fury, tries to kill Julian but can only feel fear and pity for the one who has lost his father.

Max has fulfilled his revenge, but something within him is disturbed. He believes that the only way to end this feeling is to take Julian's life to compensate for the death of the son he so dearly loved.

He tries to cut off Julian's head with a blood-covered sword. Before landing the blow to take his life, he sees in Julian's eyes the innocence he has lost and begins to recall the happy days with his beloved family. He remembers the passionate nights with his beloved, those afternoons playing with his little son.

He drops the weapon, horrified at the sight of his blood-covered hands. He believes Juliet would cry to see how her beloved husband has become this beast full of despair. Tears begin to flow from Max's eyes; that beast of immense strength has become a humble farmer longing for his family.

Max begins to tremble like a small child. Suddenly, he feels arms caressing his head. To his surprise, he sees Julian trying to console him, believing that Max is merely a victim of racial segregation and that now he can move on with his life, having completed his revenge.
