Chapter 71
Selena’s POV
When I was a child, my father used to take my sister and me to the seaside for vacation. I playfully sat on the swimming ring. At my happiest moment, I leaned back, and then the swimming circle flipped over, and I fell into the sea in a flash.
The water was coming at me from all directions. It was everywhere. I took a big gulp of seawater. I wanted to call for help but couldn't breathe. Just when I thought I was going to drown, my father grabbed the strap of my bathing suit and pulled me out of the water.
Now I'm not in the water, but I still feel like I'm drowning. My chest heaved as if I couldn't breathe. I sipped the oxygen. Every breath I take hurts like I swallowed a razor blade. My mouth is salty, and tears are streaming into my mouth.
It's not the sea that's drowning me, it's an emotion called truth.
Charles's fingers twitched, and his eyelashes fluttered like butterflies. I took off the mask from his face.
He woke up at last.
