Chapter 49
Selena’s POV
In the evening, there was another knock at the door.
"Come in," I shouted at the door.
The door opened slowly, quietly, without a sound. I looked up. Charles was standing in the doorway. He looked angry.
"Charles, you're back. What's wrong?" I got up to greet him.
Charles came to my desk, looked at the scattered papers, and flipped through them. "I just came back to the room and found that you weren't there... I knew you were here. Didn't I tell you not to work overtime? Don't work too long until you're fully recovered."
I comforted him, "My body has recovered. And I don't have much time left to prepare the party. I can't put it off any longer."
"You could have had the housekeeper and the servants do that," Charles said, not buying it.
"Don't worry, Susan is helping me," I replied. Susan helped me a lot, but Vanessa always interfered with her work, so she wasn't as helpful as Charles thought.
