Chapter 38
Selena’s POV
Just as Scar put his hand on my shoulder, a loud whistle cut through the air.
"Get your dirty hands off her," said a stern voice.
In the rain and fog, a man's figure gradually emerged. He was wearing a black coat. The collar of the white shirt was left open. He walked in the rain without an umbrella. Several strands of wet hair hung down on his forehead.
In a trance, I thought he was the man who saved me a few years ago, and my heart raced. But it was Charles, and for a moment I didn't know whether to be disappointed or happy.
Scar and Jake obviously recognized Charles quickly. "Oh, it's the Alpha of the Black Valley Pack. He's a tough one. You take this woman and I'll cover for you." As Scar spoke, he pulled me toward Jake.
Vampire Jake didn't hesitate. He grabbed my arm and ran. I struggled and Jake slapped me. His slap was much fiercer than my father's. My head buzzed and the corners of my mouth began to bleed.
