Chapter 37
Selena's POV
There was a rustle.
My foot made a crisp sound on the dead branch. In the silence of the forest, the sound was very obvious, as if it had been magnified. My heart skipped a beat, but I caught my breath, pretended not to notice it, and went deeper into the forest as usual.
I'm on patrol alone today.
The other day, I was on patrol here with two other female soldiers. But the killer seemed to have disappeared. There was nothing out of the ordinary. Everything was normal. It even gives us the illusion that the previous serial murders didn't happen at all, that we were just being played a bad joke.
But I know that the more normal it seems at this point, the more abnormal it is. The killer must have lurked out of sight, waiting to strike again.
