Yoriichi and Benimaru would spend much more time in their uncle's home. The Uchiha clan patriarch Fugaku, enjoyed having them over despite his hard to read stoic demeanor (which Yoriichi picked at whenever he got the chance). Mikoto absolutely doted on her nephews, especially Benimaru who couldn't run away from her yet. He made it his current mission to learn to walk as fast as possible. Itachi would have loved having his cousins over too, but Yo randomly becomes angry with him entirely unprovoked. He's usually muttering something about a traitor. Of course no one else ever saw this behavior. This was as confusing as it was alarming to him, giving him yet another mystery to ponder. A couple of short months later their aunt Mikoto gave birth to her second son, Sasuke who actually had childlike emotions. They were starting to think this generation of Uchiha main branch were having developmental issues before he came along. Fugaku's brother had remained in his home not bothering to even inquire about his sons, and the few times they came back was either met with hostility or indifference. It was clear he needed space, so they let him be for now.
Though he wasn't generally competitive or easily fired up, Itachi found himself competing with Yo for efficiency in missions only to lose time and time again. That's not to say he didn't perform each mission with expert skill, in fact with a worthy rival he actually performed even better than usual. Yo found him stimulating competition at the least, but he never feared losing. He simply pranced about, gloating and bragging although the most acknowledgement he got was a stoic grunt from Fugaku. Even Shisui said he knew what separated them and found it funny Itachi couldn't see something so simple for all his smarts. Nevertheless, he continued to study and train, rapidly improving in hopes of overcoming this weakness.
On the other hand when Yoriichi wasn't on a mission or pestering his uncle, he spent his all his free time out and about with his friends. They were almost inseparable (unless Kushina was beating Yo up for mouthing off), doing everything together from training to teaming up for games. They shared everything freely, including resources and insights on their techniques. It was almost rare to see one without the others nearby around the village, some people started to think they were a sibling trio. This closeness showed on missions too, as their teamwork was hailed to be unmatched in generations. Thanks to Yo, both Yami and Toph were also skilled practitioners of total concentration breathing, carried zanpakuto, and used improvised techniques with the ferocity of high level kekkei genkai (Yo may have just adapted techniques from other anime, but it worked). His individual skill aside Yo's teammates also helped make them a first class squad.
Yoriichi and his teammates would often gather at Kushina's house to train, but that's really where the went to goof off. With Kushina being pregnant, she couldn't do much more than instruct them and force them to try her recipies that were never good. It's safe to say the kids built up a pretty good tolerance to poison in that short time. While Kushina was on leave, Hizashi Hyuga would act as their squad leader and accompany them on missions. He quickly found that though scrappy, they didn't really need his help and only needed a captain on the formality of being genin.
With his wealth of knowledge from his past life Yo, went and started a few business ventures like taking over the movie industry with Hollywood rewrites, introducing more leisure activities like sports and games, and introduce some of his favorite foods from back home. All under alternate identities. He also used his otherworldly knowledge to make a few connections, including befriending the daimyo of the land of fire. Yo and the daimyo's son actually started a military police unit known as the Shinsengumi. The next few months flew by for Yo, who was enjoying an lively youth with his friends and family Soon the day he dreaded was upon him, well if everyone heeded his words it would be fine. He did what he could and now he could only wait for the night to play its course.
"Be careful teacher, please be careful." Yo pleads pacing back and forth in front of his teacher's home.
"Don't be such a worry-wart, we took extra-extra precautions just in case anything bad happens. So we'll be fine." Kushina reassures the worried little boy that his warnings were not on deaf ears. "Go on your mission, have a good nights rest, and come back bright and early to meet Naruto. OK?"
Not getting the answer he wanted, he turns to her husband the fourth Hokage, staring at the smiling man with a blank face.
"I promise I took your words seriously Yoriichi, we will be extra careful. We've taken several more security measures based on your description just to be sure." Minato says. 'His vision sounded farfetched, but the boy swore he would gouge his own eyes out if I didn't believe that there would be an attack today. Besides being Kushina's student, his track record of getting information that even the village doesn't have has been exemplary. From naming the other villages hidden jinchuriki, to pointing out some of Orochimaru and Danzo's spies he has random information. He claims to be able to talk to ghost, but I don't know about that.'
"Thank you for that Minato-senpai." Says Yoriichi with a similar friendly smile hearing that his words were taken to heart.
"Hey, isn't that what I just said!" his cranky master shouts.
"One version sounds a lot less patronizing, sensei. Almost like you're talking to a snot nosed kid." Toph chuckles 'looking' at Yoriichi.
"Who said that?" Yo asks with a straight face looking straight over Toph's head, "oh there you are little fella. What are you doing all the way down there?"
"Haha the last time I heard that one I fell off my dragon laughing." Toph retorts. It doesn't take much more for them to start fighting.
"You see what I have to deal with every day," Yami asks Kushina and Minato shaking his head like an old grandpa with disappointing children. "A couple of dumb kids…tsk tsk."
"Don't try to act mature!"
"You're the worst one dumbass!" Yami gets drop kicked by his friends turning the fight into a triple threat match.
"Okay, okay that's enough you guys." The fourth Hokage breaks them up. "We have to get her ready. Shouldn't you three be going to meet Hizashi?"
"Oh right the mission…" Yo says like he forgot.
"Wanna ditch and go with sensei?" Yami asks.
"Honestly doesn't sound like that bad an idea, especially for you yami." Toph agrees
"Don't keep him waiting, go on!" Kushina ushers them outside of her house, before she and Minato walk off first. "Stay focused out there you guys! Do your best and be safe!"
"Yes teacher!" The three of them shout after her. Yoriichi feels better knowing that his warning was at least heard.
