Omolewa sat in Bisi's bed, awaiting her arrival.
She was proud that she was finally breaking out ofthe anti-social shell she has kept herself hidden in previously.
And she had the two other humans to thank for it.
She couldn't wait for Bisi to return and–
Her heart skipped a beat.
Something's wrong.
She tried to link her mind to Bisi's but something seemed to be keeping her out.
She had a bad feeling about this.
♤
"What're you waiting for? Open your eyes, mortal. Look at me"
Bisi remained silent. She wanted to open them but something compelled her to keep them shut.
Whenever she made an effort to open them, her eyelids would seemingly lose strength and would remain shut.
"I shouldn't have expected anything more from a mortal", the demon sneered. "All bark, no bite"
"I could say the same to you, all you've done is talk, aren't you tired?", Bisi sneered back. "What sort of demon are you anyway? Are you so ugly, that no one can look at you?"
The demon growled. "Watch your mouth, little one"
"Or what?", Bisi taunted.
She tried to remember the best attack technique Omolewa had taught her.
The Banshee cry...
'I call them cries of the in between. The Banshee cry is the easiest to master, it banishes all darkness around you with a singular, wild burst of energy'
The defender cry...
'This is a spell that summons assistance from the beyond to aid your battle.
The illumina cry....
'This summons a blindingly bright, pure light. It affects all sorts of demons you encounter, though it may only momentarily stun a higher demon such as the first corrupted creation's direct descents'
'There's a hierarchy in the demon world?', Bisi had asked.
'There's a hierarchy of power everywhere', Omolewa had answered. 'The demons are ranked by their power. The lowest ranked demons are called Sins, they usually are easy to eliminate and you can tell they're Sins when they possess only powers of manipulation and possession. The middle ranked demons are divided in two, Creepers and Mutes. Creepers remain silent and work mostly in the dark, but the Mutes are wild, often cocky and attack any time, anywhere. They're incredibly strong but with strategy, can be eliminated or fled from. You'll recognize them as humanoid beings and cannot be seen until killed. Direct descents of the first corrupted creation are the strongest demons and they're called Curses. They usually appear human and can blend into crowds very easily. They are, humanly speaking, almost impossible to defeat'
'Then how do I defeat them?'
'The last cry....it may be very complicated, but it is the only technique that seems to affect them'
What was the last cry?
It didn't matter right now. Obviously, this demon was a Mute –cocky and cannot be looked at directly. If she used the illumina cry to get it off guard, the Banshee cry could banish it.
"I can see the gears turning in your tiny brain, mortal", came the demon's provocative sneer. "Your plan will fail"
"Bold of you", Bisi sneered back. "I definitely will kill you"
"Yet you still refuse to look me in my eyes", the demon retorted. "Admit your fear and I will make your death less painful than I intend"
Bisi shook her head. "You're not worth me losing control of my anger. I won't let you have even the slightest satisfaction of seeing me rage because of your actions and your words. Who do you think you are?"
The air stilled.
Bisi would've thought the demon left, if not for the low growling coming from its direction.
"Did you...a mere, weak human, just talk down to me? Me?", the demon thundered. "I am the great Elthazer Baltimus! I will not sit by and let a human slander me!"
Bisi took a step back, surprised by the out burst.
Elthazer Baltimus?
What kind of name was that?
"I was going to toy with you for a little longer. But you do not deserved to live a second more!"
"You're powerless as far as my eyes haven't seen you!", Bisi yelled back. "You will lose this battle!"
Suddenly-
"Bisi...?"
A-Aisha? What was she doing here?
Without thinking, Bisi spun around to face Aisha, eyes wide with shock.
Except...it wasn't Aisha.
What met Bisi's eyes was a humanoid, contorted shadow-like, black, gooey thing that seemed to possess many faces. It couldn't maintain a form as it kept wavering, resembling the flames of fire. The faces were more than Bisi could count, it popped out of every edge of the wavering form of the shadow, almost seeming like it was trying to break free from it. The faces of the humanoid creature changed and contorted every few seconds but the only thing that remained unwaveringly, was the unhinged, malicious grin on its face.
She had seen this grin before. In the storage room in her class, a week ago.
Once Bisi's eyes were on it, the grin widened even more, that if it had eyes, it would've reached them.
Bisi stood frozen, in shock, unable to move or think. All she felt were waves of fear and shock.
The creature seemed to stare right into her soul as it said...
"Time for dinner"
