Chapter 4 - Is this the beginning, or the end?

[TIME: 3.35 pm. Location: ???; Florix High, the cafeteria. Main POV: Rei Takiru/third person]

Rei sat in one of the chairs, listening to Tera talk. She was explaining everything he had missed during the meeting at the gym... The whole place will explode in a few days... If... No one dies? That can't be true... That's insane! She also said the guy was talking about another motive, but seemed to forget it, and no one dared to utter a word in case it reminded him. Or, well, "the host"... that's what he wanted people to call him, too fancy for a normal name huh?

Eventually, it seemed the two got into the subject of "the host". As Rei and Tera talked, they both expressed that something about the guy seemed familiar, but neither of them could pinpoint what it was. Well, speak of the devil, not even a minute later they heard his voice coming from the speakers.

"Teehee, it seems I forgot something... Please head over to the gym, everyone!". Rei and Tera quickly exchanged looks, knowing exactly what this was about, but still having a bit of hope it wasn't. Even though they didn't know what this 'second motive' was, it couldn't be anything good. The two silently walked over to the gym, where most of the other participants already were. It was odd, how did they get over so fast, Rei and Tera were in the cafeteria, so basically right next to the gym, yet they were the last ones there. Nonetheless, The two stood there with everyone else, silence taking over the room.

Then, the host walks on stage. And turns to look at Rei, What could this guy possibly want from him..? Whatever it was, Rei wasn't going to give it to him, at least not without a fight.

They stared at each other for what felt like an eternity, and Rei could see the hatred, even disgust in the guy's eyes. He didn't know why, but he was sure the host hated him, the others could see it too.

"...Anyways, let's continue! It seems I forgot about the second motive completely, even though it's one of my favorite parts... Soo, Rei! Pick one person from the participants, won't you?"

Pick.. someone? But for what... The host probably wouldn't give him more information... Rei wasn't going to just do as this crazy asshole told him to, though, he wasn't about to take the blame in case something happened. "No, I won't."

The gym went silent once again, and the host guy seemed almost shocked. How wasn't it obvious, why on earth would Rei just pick someone, they might die! "No? What... what do you mean no!?" Rei was so ready to get into a fight with this guy, verbal or physical, didn't matter. He didn't seem that strong anyways, Rei could easily just punch the guy and he'd probably die.

Tera jumped into the conversation and turned to look at Rei. "C'mon Rei, just pick someone, you wouldn't wanna anger this guy... Plus, it might be a good thing, you could save someone!"

Rei stared at Tera for a while, wondering. She might be right, but... The chance of someone getting hurt is just too much, he can't just choose a random person with the chance that they would die, no way.

Rei sighed, looking away from Tera, and back at the host. "I'm not doing it, choose someone yourself." It's not like this is Reus job, he isn't the one literally hosting a killing game! If the guy wants someone to get picked, he has to do it himself. They stared at each other before the guy sighed. "..Fine." Huh... Was it that easy, the guy just gave up? That's weird, Rei wasn't expecting someone like that to just... Stop. But, that wasn't his problem, so he didn't care. At least not yet...

The host turned to look at the audience and stared at everyone. "Guess I'll choose someone... But who! I wonder, an answer to such a perplexing and important question..." Annoying guy, trying to use big words to sound smart or whatever. Perplexing, what's that even supposed to mean!

"Hmmm... Such a hard question, I must say! I just don't know who to choose... You're all such good candidates, but I've made my pick! Teehee, I'll pick..." Then, he points at the middle of the crowd, specifically at the guy in the corner. "You!"

The person stared at him, face full of shock. "Wha- me?! What... Why me?!" As the guy started to yell at the host, a card slowly fell down.

The guy went silent, not daring to pick up the card, instead just staring at it. But, Rei wasn't about to sit around and wait for it, so he just walked over and picked it up himself. "Sacrifice? What does that mean.."

(It's the sacrifice card from yttd, except without the back text)

The host giggled, smiling brightly. "Oo, that's my favorite, I always love it when someone gets it! Even though it is guaranteed... But still!" Well, that definitely can't mean anything good. And, it probably doesn't, because the guy who got the card- seriously, Rei should learn their names... But, the guy fell down, holding onto his neck. "Ow ow, what the fuck was that?!"

He's holding onto something on his neck, but what... Rei leans down, looking at it. "A collar of some sort..?" That's weird, why did the guy have one of those? Rei slowly reached to touch his neck, which was covered by his jacket. Sure enough, he also had one... Does that mean everyone else does too? Wait, how didn't he notice it earlier, a cold metal object that's on your neck is such a weird thing, surely you'd notice it immediately... But, Rei decided to think about it later, instead turning his attention back to the man rolling around the floor in pain. "..Does it actually hurt that much?" It's not like Rei didn't believe the guy... Just wanted to be sure.

Then, the guy stops and turns to stare at Rei. "Actually, not really, just thought I was dying and wanted to be dramatic." How funny, I'm sure everyone had a good laugh about that. "But, I'm sure you'd wanna know what happened! A needle poked me. I think it-" But, before he could finish, once again, the host cut them off.

"I'll answer that, It's much easier when you KNOW what you're talking about." still arrogant and annoying, if they're stuck in a killing game at least get them a decent host.

"Simply put, you're gonna die in a day!" Again a motive about death, how original. Still, they don't know if the 'motives' are actually real, the guy could just be lying.

"Die? Well... Can we stop it?" Came from someone else, and guess it makes sense, Obviously you'd wanna try to save someone. "Of course! well, in that case, someone else has to die. Either this person dies, or someone gets killed. But that would be boring... So, I'll also choose another person to be a sacrifice, but this time it'll be a secret, tehee!"

So, everyone knows one person who's going to die, but not the other one. It's either one person who'll die, or two... Which would force us to kill someone, if we don't wanna lose more people than necessary.

"It seems most of you have already realized what this means... Great, I'm happy there are some smart people among you! But, whatever, that's all for now, so... You're free to go."

Rei was angry at the host but decided that for now, it would be better to just leave it at that. If there truly is gonna be killing involved, he should try to at least get to know everyone's names...

Everyone left.
