Chapter 1 - Divine Darkness

Long ago, the region of Karia was divided into four great empires: Mirak, Kashar, Vakaril, and Teril. Each empire had its own natural resources and unique culture. But there was a dark threat: the Varuk, wild and ravenous creatures that threatened to destroy everything. Concerned for mortals, the gods decided to send protectors to each empire, known as Paeres. These were powerful and benevolent beings who shielded the people from the beasts. Their arrival brought peace and prosperity, and they were hailed as heroes.

However, the gods grew jealous of the adoration the Paeres received. Nashir, the god of fire, was particularly furious. He believed only the gods should be worshipped. One day, Nashir persuaded Amnar, the god of light, that they should punish the Paeres. Nashir proposed that there should be only one Paere per empire, and the rest should be eliminated. Although Amnar disagreed, he yielded to Nashir's pressure.

The gods killed the Paeres one by one, and darkness descended upon Karia once more. Beasts attacked without mercy, and chaos reigned. Some years later, Amnar realized his mistake and decided to make amends. He decreed that there would be only one Paere per empire, but a new one would be born every 1000 years. The mortals, who had lost hope, received the news with indifference. They didn't believe the Paeres could save them. But Amnar was determined to get it right this time.

After centuries of darkness and chaos in the region of Karia, a valiant group emerged known as the Rakentis. These fearless adventurers volunteered to protect the people from the beasts, without the need for divine blessing like the Paeres possessed. They were experienced warriors dedicated to hunting down the creatures that haunted the lands. Their arrival was a balm for mortals who had suffered during the absence of the Paeres.

However, the protection of the Rakentis came at a price, and it was not small. They demanded hefty sums of gold in exchange for their service, dividing society into two distinct classes: the Aemir, who could afford the high fees of the Rakentis, and the Akemir, who did not have the means. The Aemir lived in relative peace and prosperity, while the Akemir, deprived of protection, lived in constant fear of the beasts.

One day, the kingdom announced that the fees to belong to the Aemir would double. Bastian, a man from a simple family but with an innate talent for the art of glassmaking, felt a shiver run down his spine upon receiving the news. His wife, Fiora, a woman of captivating beauty with fiery red hair, and their children, Arion and Lyra, were his reason for being. Arion was a young man of honesty, strength, and exceptional intelligence. Lyra, despite her physical fragility, possessed an indomitable heart that did not deter her from pursuing her own dreams.

The increase in fees set off an unexpected turn in the lives of Bastian and his family. Amidst the shadows that threatened the empire of Kashar, their story would intertwine with the fate of the region in an epic that would challenge the very forces that had plunged Karia into darkness. A new chapter in the story of the Rakentis, the Paeres, and the mortals was about to begin, while Bastian and his family found themselves at the heart of this new chapter for the world.
