Lavi and Lobek find themselves in front of the town hall; they take note of the lack of guards at the town hall. It's not normal for there to be two guards outside of the hall.
"what's going on? This is not normal," Lobek asks, confused.
"If I had an answer, I would tell you," Lavi says, looking at his with a tinge of frustration.
Lavi rubs her temples and feels her hair fall into her face; she takes a second to grab her ribbon to tie the long black hair back into a ponytail. Feeling the anxiety welling inside her, she rubs her chin and neck to soothe her anxious mind. Dealing with politicians is Lavi's least favorite thing; she would much rather be fighting a monster or studying the continent's history. She takes a deep breath and steps forward, passing the guards with no problem, but they stop Lobek.
"Hold up, Lobek, hand over any weapons you are carrying now, and don't tell me you don't have any," the guard says, pressing his hand on Lobek's chest.
"Why are you only stopping me? You let Lavi walk right past," Lobek protests.
"The number of times you've been caught trying to sneak into the town hall with a weapon or weapons is too many, so every time you come in, we need to search you no matter what," the guard laughs softly, knowing this is getting a rise out of Lobek.
"Fuck. Fine, take it," Lobek pulls out his knife and gives it to the guard.
Lavi grabs Lobek by the shoulder and pulls him into the building; as she waves to the guards with a fake smile, she feels a rage boiling inside her, but she can't do anything about the guards targeting her brother. Walking through the door to the town hall, they can see a man with a piece of parchment; she can't think of a reason for this man to be here. He is too well dressed for the likes of this town. The only nobleman is the Lord of the Tyer.
She can help but think, 'Is he from the capital?' that one question is burning a hole in her mind. Walking up to him, she and Lobek pass, not looking at him, but Lavi can feel his eyes piercing through her and her brother.
Lobek turns and looks at him. "What are you looking at..." Before he could finish his sentence, Lavi pulls him hard away from the well-dressed man.
"Bite your tongue, Lobek. We do not know who that man is and what kind of power he has. Do not start a fight here. You got it," Lavi snaps at him as they walk. Lavi can feel the anger that she felt for the guards redirect to her brother for being a hardhead. As they walk, Lavi looks at the walls; she sees 4 portraits of the previous lords of Tyer; the town is still one the youngest in the kingdom.
They reach the large doors leading to the Lord's office. Lavi stops and pulls her courage and purpose up from deep inside her chest, pushing it through her anxiety. She grabs the hoop of the large door, moves it, and enters the office.
