Chapter 3 - Chapter 02- Homeroom Teacher

Xi Weiwei hugs Su LingYun with a sad face.

"That's enough. We're going to be late in class." Xiao Yu says impatiently.

"Who cares about the first day of school anyways. It's not even considered part of the regular classes." Xi Weiwei retaliates.

"But you need to improve your attendance to be in Class 1 next year." Su LingYun gently explains, tapping Xi Weiwei's shoulder.

Xi Weiwei sniffs. "Mn...." she agrees before batting her eyelashes at Xiao Yu.

"We'll be heading off first." Zi Yue says, grabbing Weiwei.

"Mn. Bye bye!" Chen Mi and Su LingYun waves.

The three enters their first class. Students have already taken the first two rows so they settle on the third row.

They have always known that Su LingYun is near-sighted so they always choose to stay near the board.

"We should have come earlier." Xiao Yu glances at Su LingYun.

"Nah. Third row is fine. The teachers won't easily notice if I take a nap." Su LingYun giggles.

The class has a total of forty desks. There are four columns and five rows. Each desk comes with a pair so each student has a desk mate.

Xiao Yu stands in between the desks. She looks at Chen Mi and then Su LingYun.

Su LingYun notices and immediately grabs Xiao Yu's arm.

Chen Mi is quick and grabs ahold of Xiao Yu's left arm.

"This desk is better. It's at the side so only a few students will pass by. And.. it's by the window. You can choose the window seat if you like." Chen Mi flashes an inviting smile to Xiao Yu.

"Eh? The sun always hits the window seat. The sun damage will cause your skin to wrinkle and you will get sun spots." Su LingYun wrinkles her face.

"Ey. I don't want that." Xiao Yu exclaims and moves towards Su LingYun.

Chen Mi pulls her. "I'll take the window seat. You can sit next to me."

Xiao Yu: ....

"I'll bring you sunscreen every day." Chen Mi bribes.

"Eh. Wait you two." Xiao Yu pull-off her arms. Let's just settle this fairly.

The three decides to settle with a game of rock-paper-scissors.

Xiao Yu ends up taking the seat next to Chen Mi.

Su LingYun glares at them and puts her bag on the empty seat beside her. "No worries. This is even better. I can have two desks for myself."

"Eh? That's not possible. That desk will be occupied, sooner or later." Xiao Yu says.

"Then...I'll just become the worst desk mate so no one would dare to."

Xiao Yu and Chen Mi giggles.

Other students enter the class noisily.

Most of them are complaining about the rising temperature.

A few minutes later, a man wearing a checkered polo and suit pants enters. He has a folder with him and places it on top of the podium. He adjusts his glasses and runs his eyes from left to right.

He clears his throat deliberately causing the chatter to fade. A few seconds later, silence fills the classroom.

He writes his name legibly on the board. "I am going to be your Mathematics and homeroom teacher. Lim Guan Xi." he speaks with emphasis.

He opens the folder he brought with him, and runs his eyes on the paper inside. He makes and frown before shooting his eyes on the back rows.

"Looks like some of you have decided to extend their holidays, huh." he scoffs.

A commotion begins as students look around.

Su LingYun notices the pile of vacant chairs at the back including the one beside her.

"I am not going to stay for long because I still have a meeting to attend to. However, I would like to make some important announcements." Mr. Lim says in a stern voice, causing the students to shift their attention back to him.

Su LingYun and Xiao Yu looks at each other with apprehensive faces.

"First, do not forget to attend your formal orientation at the auditorium, 2:00 in the afternoon. Second, start wearing your uniforms and school badge tomorrow." Mr. Lim says, maintaining his serious face.

Su LingYun swallows. She is expecting a light first day of school but their homeroom teacher seems to be strict.

"And lastly, we will have the election of class officers tomorrow." Mr. Lim adds.

The students begin to chatter, overwhelmed with what they heard.

Mr. Lim clears his throat deliberately again. "Silence!"

The air sweeps the noise in an instant and the students shrink back into their chairs.

"Use your remaining time to read the School's Book of Rules and Regulations. It shall come in handy if you don't want to be a constant at my office." he warns, glaring at the class before leaving.

Su LingYun releases her breath as soon as Mr. Lim leaves.

"How unlucky of us." Chen Mi complains.

Su LingYun turns to her friends "Is he really that bad?"

"He does not get any gifts during the Teacher's Day. That's how bad he is." Xiao Yu frowns.

Su LingYun purses her lips "Well...maybe we should try giving him some, that might change him a bit."

"You can give him a gift yourself; I doubt if he would even appreciate that." Xiao Yu replies.
