With the Great Zapfish now freed from its confinement, Roenaldo could see how the fish had earned its name. It was bigger than anything he had ever seen before; its long body waved through the air as it floated around using its electrical powers. Happy to be out of its cramped space, the Great Zapfish waved its fins around and made deep, content noises. Roenaldo sat and smiled at the spectacle, taking this as a form of congratulations for all his hard work. Callie squealed before exclaiming, "YES! You did it, Agent 3! Or would you prefer to be called Roenaldo? Oh, it doesn't matter, you're still our hero!" Marie added, "You did good, kid. I'm sure that we won't be seeing DJ Octavio for a looong time. Roenaldo beamed with pride. He had done it. He had saved Inkopolis. As the squid was relaxing, he started to notice an unsettling development. The lights filling the giant cave were starting to flicker, and the ground began to shake. The captain came flying by on a saucer, exclaiming, "We've got trouble, bucko! The place's starting to collapse!" Marie gasped and stated, "He's right, Agent 3. The Great Zapfish must've been powering the whole area. Now that it's freed, everything's falling apart!" Callie shouted, "What?! Oh man, this is bad. Do you see any way for you or gramps to get out?" As if hearing this question, the Great Zapfish swam over to Cuttlefish, wiggling its body while looking at the senior squid. "Oho," said the older Inkling, "Are ya offering me a ride? Many thanks, my friend!" Roenaldo smiled, saying, "Great! Do you have a seat for one more?" He walked over to where the giant catfish was and prepared to jump when he suddenly stopped in his tracks. The Great Zapfish's usually docile look had took a turn for the worse, with the large fish giving the boy an unfriendly stare and burbling menacingly. Roenaldo backed away and laughed nervously, saying, "You know what, I'll pass." He knew better then to test this creature's patience; the regular Zapfish's shocks were already painful enough, so taking a shock from this massive specimen would certainly spell death. "Really?" asked Marie, "You're not taking the Zapfish express? Well, how exactly do you intend on escaping, then?" With the platforms beginning to collapse around him, Roenaldo answered, "I guess I'll just have to move as fast as I can!" "Oh," gushed Callie, "Agent 3, you're so brave! Go on, then, swim your way to the exit! Stay focused and stay fresh! In fact, Marie, how about we put on some more of our music to motivate our hero?" Marie responded, "Sure thing. This is one of our newer songs, Shooting Out of the Sea. The name could use some work. Anyway, hopefully it does the trick. Don't die out there, agent." Moderate-paced, yet urgent-sounding music began to play, and Roenaldo began to tap his foot to the beat. As Roenaldo began to run, Cap'n Cuttlefish cheered, "Atta boy, Agent 3! Never let up till it's over!"
Roenaldo swung the Hero Roller towards the ground, sending a wave of yellow ink onto the floor in front of him. He dove into it just in time to avoid the collapse of the ground behind him. Breathing a sigh of relief, the squid swam forward and jumped out, once again swinging his weapon through the air to set some more liquid down that he proceeded to swim through. He repeated this process over and over again, with the captain and the Great Zapfish following closely. Suddenly, a vacated, metal tentacle came crashing down in front of Roenaldo, causing the ground he was standing on to rapidly fall down. Roenaldo gasped in shock before quickly jumping onto the long limb and running for dear life, using the improvised platform to end up back on relatively safe ground. Laughing triumphantly at his own accomplishment, Roenaldo pressed forward, using the Hero Roller to slide across the ground. As he was doing that, a stray egg appeared from somewhere, releasing a single Octosniper. The Octarian, enraged by what was happening to its home, took aim at the squid, who was barely able to avoid the 1st shot. "Hey," shouted Roenaldo, "Don't you have anything better to do, like escaping this place?" Apparently, the answer to this question was no, and the ranger kept on blasting. Roenaldo groaned with annoyance before continuing on, making sure to move in a zigzag so as to throw off his assaulter. Eventually, the Octosniper fell subject to a falling piece of debris, and it fell into the darkness below. Roenaldo smiled at the serving of Justice before Super Jumping to the next platform.
As he swam along, he heard a voice call out in a distressed tone. He headed over to the edge of the floating island and noticed a lone Octotroopers without its battle vehicle screaming for help in a sucker of one of the metal tentacles. Roenaldo, pace slowed to a jog as he said, "Hey! Didn't you get the memo? Why didn't you escape with all of your friends?" The Octotrooper looked around in a panic before setting its eyes on Roenaldo. It's face donned an angry expression before the robotic limb began to tip over. The Octotrooper's expression went straight back to its scared version as it pleaded in its native language. Roenaldo's jog further slowed into a crawl as he pondered the situation, his feelings and values clashing. He clutched his head and groaned before shouting, "Darn it, I've gotta! Come here!" He Super Jumped over to where the Octotroopers was, quickly grabbing it by the head with one tentacle before launching back. "Cuttlefish," yelled Roenaldo, "Catch!" "Catch?" asked the captain, "What're you on abo—" The Octotrooper landed in his arms, a shocked expression on its face. "Say," growled the captain, "This is aiding the enemy! I can't do this!" Roenaldo went back into a run, responding, "You don't have to look at him! Just sit him at the back of the Zapfish or something!" The captain grumbled; he did not want to engage in this act, but Roenaldo was being pretty adamant about it. So, he set the Octotrooper as far away from him as possible, with the latter sitting in a confused daze. Eventually, as Roenaldo swam along, an Octobomber came to the rescue, sporting a hook for the Octotrooper to latch on to. The Octarian in need said something, causing the Octobombers to look at Roenaldo with a wary expression. The Inkling looked back at the flying octopus and did a salute, smiling as he did so. Taken aback by this gesture, the Octobomber widened its eyes before scoffing and flying away. As the two octopuses left, Roenaldo could see that the Octotrooper was waving goodbye with one of its stubby feet, a slight smile on its face. "Aw," said Callie, "How sweet of you!" Marie returned, "Yeah, we get it, you're a real saint. Now how about you pick up the pace? You wasted a lot of time with that stunt of yours." Roenaldo shuffled his legs and laid down some more ink, finding truth in Marie's words. "Okay, fine," he said to himself, "You didn't have to be so cruel about it, though…"
After loads of running, swimming, and rolling, Roenaldo finally made it to the beginning of the cave. "Yes!" he exclaimed, "I can finally leave! Inkopolis, here I come!" With only a bit of ground left to stand on, Roenaldo crouched into his squid form and leaped as high as he could towards the light near the ceiling. After ascending many feet into the air, Roenaldo finally made it back to the surface. The Inkling collapsed onto the ground as Callie screamed, "BOOYAH! You made it, Roenaldo! You…hey, are you okay?" Roenaldo took heavy breaths, gasping, "Yeah…I'm…fine. I just, ah, exercised a LOT." The Squid Sisters laughed at Roenaldo's expense before the Great Zapfish and Cap'n Cuttlefish arrived out of the hole. The captain went over to Roenaldo and patted him on the shoulder, saying, "You did good, Martine, very good, indeed! Not only did you rescue both me and the Zapfish, but you also ran through an entire cave all by your lonesome! I tell you, you never stop reminding me of myself when I was in my heyday. In fact, one day when I was a wee lass, I ran clear across the town with my own two feet! I was desperate to get to meet my lover, little miss Nautia…" As the senior was rambling, the Great Zapfish came over to meet Roenaldo face to face. The squid reeled back in fear as the creature approached. Just when he thought the worst was about to happen, the giant catfish extended one of its whiskers towards Roenaldo and tickled his cheeks. "Oho," said Cuttlefish as Roenaldo laughed, "She likes you! I guess she was impressed by your performance." Roenaldo smiled, responding, "Is that right? Aw, I can't tell you how long I've waited for something like this!" He extended a hand out to pet the Zapfish, saying, "Who's a good girl? Who's a good girl? That's right, you are!" The Great Zapfish stopped smiling; this was a step too far. It then administered a warning shock onto the squid; this was still plenty powerful enough to send the Inkling onto the floor. "Heh," chuckled Marie, "You mess with the bull shark, you get the horns." The Great Zapfish smirked with satisfaction before burbling and rising up into the air. It looked backwards and waved its fin before swimming off into the night. "Oh," said Callie, "Looks like Greatie's going back to her usual spot. How about we meet her there?" Marie sent a carrier drone to meet both Roenaldo and Cuttlefish. Roenaldo, still twitching, hopped onto the vehicle and groaned, "Well, at least she's happy…"
Soon, the duo arrived back at Cuttlefish Cabin. While the captain decided to stay behind to rest, Roenaldo took the pipe back up to Inkopolis. There, he saw the Great Zapfish, in its full glory, wrapped around the tower in the center of the city. As he marveled at the fish's speed, he saw the television on the tower suddenly spring to life. The logo for the Squid Sisters flashed on the screen followed by the appearance of the two idols. "Hold on to your tentacles," started Callie, "It's time for a late-night broadcast!" Marie slumped over and groaned, "Come on, Callie, what are you thinking? Don't you know that everyone's sleeping right about now?" Callie shook her head, responding, "They shouldn't be when we have this breaking news to present! The Great Zapfish has returned! I guess those aliens finally had enough fun with it." Roenaldo laughed and shook his head. He couldn't believe the Squid Sister's acting skills. Just moments ago, they were watching him take down the fearsome DJ Octavio. Now they were behaving as though the Zapfish's reappearance was a surprise! As the idols continued their report, Gustavo came by yawning and wiping his eyes. "Hey, Gustavo," said Roenaldo, "What're you doing up this late at night?" Gustavo stretched, answering, "Had a bad dream. Couldn't sleep. Honestly, I could ask the same of…" He noticed the giant catfish wrapped around the tower, and he could hardly believe his eyes. "Woah," he said in awe, "Am I still dreaming, or is that the Great Zapfish?" Roenaldo nodded, replying, "This is no dream. That's the Zapfish, all right." Gustavo looked back and forth between the fish and his friend, saying, "Hold on, does this mean what I think it means? Did you…do it?" Roenaldo pointed at his chest proudly, stating, "You know I did!" Gustavo smiled and held out his fist for a fist bump, saying, "Ay, I never had a doubt. Congrats on saving the world, bud!" Roenaldo accepted the fist bump, responding, "Thanks a lot, Gustavo." As the two friends were having their moment, Callie said, "This calls for a celebration! Let's bust out our newest hit, Maritime Memory!" Marie conceded, saying, "Fine. But only if I can take a nap while it's going on." Slow, pop music began to play as the display on the TV started to show a more relaxed, starry background, with fireworks of all colors going off. Gustavo looked at Roenaldo and said, "Well, it looks like we're the only other Inklings that are awake right now. What say I enjoy this show with you? You earned it." Roenaldo nodded, answering, "I don't mind." Gustavo smiled, saying, "Glad to hear it." So, the two sat down on a bench and let the night go on as the calming music continued to play. Soon, Roenaldo found his eyelids starting to close, and he slumped over to the right. Feeling extremely exhausted by his recent adventure, he drifted off into a silent slumber.
